The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Whoever that is advising Zubimendi has to be sacked. Any agent worth their weight would know that Real Sociedad is never going to make good of their promise of a contract with a massive salary increment. So why stay?

Modern Liverpool Echo offer an article that contains the word ā€œreportedlyā€ in the title - I didnā€™t even click on it and neither should you. Theyā€™ve become a parody, quite the opposite of what they used to be.

Yes Grav is doing great butā€¦have you seen our bench? Look past the forwards and weā€™re relying on the U21s and Endo. Jones has become unreliable fitness-wise and is a bit meh anyway imo. Who else is there whoā€™s not crocked? Itā€™s gonna be another 60+ (at least) game season. What happens if Grav gets injured?

Endo is a holding midfielder, pure and simple. Getting on too. Slot prefers a deep-lying playmaker as a number 6. I think thatā€™s been made clear. Weā€™ve only got Gravenberch who can play that role effectively. Mac can cover at a stretch but then who plays as the forward pivot in his place? Iā€™d get Zub if offered without a thought. His type of player doesnā€™t grow on trees.

BBC reports this in their gossip transfer page:

Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi, 25, regrets not moving to Liverpool and wants the Reds to come back in for him. (Estadio Deportivo - in Spanish)

Yeah, but apparently Estadio Deportivoā€™s source isā€¦ IndyKaila :joy:

I think it could all have been a bit quick and sudden this summer for him and his family. Now they have had time to think on it heā€™s reconsidered. Gravy has been great, but adding Zubimendi would add depth and give us more options. So Iā€™m a ā€œyeah, go on thenā€.

Did we ever go back for a player if it did not happen at the first try?
Honestly canā€™t remember.

Heā€™s our center half
Heā€™s our number 4

Also Gravenberch. Why we failed to land them initially is different, but you can also say that about our interest in and eventual acquisition of both Mane and Salah

Youā€™d have thought that that one would have been pretty obvious.

Also got to bear in mind that we got a very ā€œmediaā€ view of what happened over the summer. How it concluded the way it did, and what was said by both parties we arenā€™t sure of. Maybe an option was left in there.

Obviously Slot not happy with his midfield options but I still can not see us going back for Zubimendi.

1W 1D 4L since he turned us down and now he changed his mind. He can fuck off.

Iā€™m sure we have other targets lined up for January.

I definitely think we need another midfielder. Not necessarily a ā€˜6ā€™. Barella looks the business

I think heā€™s a lifelong Serie A player.

I think i read Sociodad were going to give him a new contract with higher release clause but then kind of low balled the offer after convincing him to stay with some promises, so i wouldnā€™t be shocked if it made him sour on them a bit.

Iā€™d still be all for bringing him in.

So would I.

I think the market for deep midfielders is really thin, and I donā€™t think we can afford to turn our nose up for spurious reasons

Iā€™ll be for it.

A Trio of him , Grav and Bajcetic would set us up nicely.

I wouldnā€™t cut the nose off to spite the face. Heā€™s a good player, so provided the hunger is there to come here and do well (itā€™s reasonable to look into this aspect after it fell through last time) then fine, letā€™s do it. Oh, and the terms need to be right, of course.

Zubimendi could play in a double pivot with Gravenberch, giving us the option to play Mac Allister a bit more advanced. Obviously Szobo will factor into that, and the other midfielders we have will want a look in too, in particular Iā€™m thinking Jones and Elliott.

If we sign Zubimendi I think Endo might be the casualty to make way. Iā€™d be fine with that. Thereā€™s a sense in which Endo is down the pecking order and he might not be a great fit for what Slot wants, but in the meantime, he is a solid citizen who can do a job when called upon. Zubimendi would be a clear upgrade.

MacAllister
Zubimendi
Gravenberch
Szoboszlai
Jones
Elliott

6 players for 3 positions, with the likes of Bajcetic potentially coming back, and Nyoni coming through.

Looks very good.

Why would we need a casualty? Our squad is not particularly large at the moment. Also, werenā€™t we reportedly refusing offers for him during the Zubimendi saga?

We wouldnā€™t need a casualty! If we retain seven first choice midfielders for three spots, great.

Iā€™m suggesting Endo might be a casualty, for the reasons given. If we sign Zubimendi and Endo stays, good luck to him.
