The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Think that’s true most years isnt it? Teams are always looking to buy goals and few of our competitors seem to have a reliable option.leading their lines.

What is happening with past flavours of the month like Osimhen and Vlahovic. They have been highly touted in previous years but i have not seen either linked with us this season or Sesko?

He was on the verge of selling his soul for some Saudi $$$ last summer, but ended up going out on loan to Galatasaray.

By the time a player is on everyone’s radar, they are all going to be overpriced. I don’t expect us to sign an obvious name. I explained they are looking for someone that fits our intended formation and is hopefully not injury prone.

Do you think there’s any consideration given to freeing up their PSR position if we went and dropped £100m+ on him?

Still can’t see us paying that kind of fee for him. Can see Arsenal basically looking at him as “the final piece of the puzzle” for them and going all out, even if that means selling off a couple reasonable squad players to get it done.

See Ekitike as an Isak “light” option. Not quite the same pedigree yet but you compare them on something like FBREF and their profiles are very similar, as is Jota’s.

Yes, i agree. Timing has probably not been favourable with our interest in some of those players before their breakout big moves, so quite likely we have some similar targets in mind that is not on the media’s radar.

I dont follow football anywhere as closely as i used to so i havent the foggiest who that might be.

But we’ve also seen FSG willing to sanction a big spend on a player so i’m not ruling out that out either.

Checking fbref for similar players to Isak. Got this name (unknown to me), Georges Mikautadze.

Very similar stats to Isak but he hasn’t played that much for Lyon this season. Anyone who’ve seen him play. There’s been some ramblings about everton going in for him.

Yeah, let us get fleeced by Italian clubs time and time again, so we can raise enough credits to buy another Salah and Alisson in ten to twenty years… :joy:

Joking aside, I think Vlahović’s style and ability would be a good match for this Liverpool side but I doubt his character would fit. His Juventus numbers are decent, roughly one goal involvement every two matches, but fans never liked him (he came from Fiorentina) and that feeling was reciprocated by him. It’s probably tough for him to play with such a burden, and his style seems to be at odds with Motta’s, so I expect them to part ways this summer.

I still think it will be a “lesser” name. Someone like Mbeumo would be a good option if he was a striker, for example, but I’d have to trawl through PL sides’ teams to see whether is a striker who would be attainable and a good fit in my opinion.

I wonder if Jonathan David might be the one, especially if we have to spend big in other areas? It will be interesting to see how it all evolves.

I see Ekitike getting mentioned more and more. Young and on the way up, quite fast too. One striker we don’t hear a lot about is Karim Adeyemi. I think he might be leaving Dortmund.

Newcastle were pretty close to signing this lad but I can’t remember why this particular transfer fell through at the time, nor who was driving the transfer from Newcastle’s end.

I’ve just seen Gordon’s red card for Newcastle. I would like someone to explain why on Earth, aside from the homegrown quota, would such a plonker (and a diver) be of such strong interest to Liverpool that they were willing to basically give Joe Gomez and 30 million pounds for that twat?

It’s why I have my doubts whether much of this is true. There seems no particular desire to purchase anyone else in that role.

Gomez is in a flashing red area for us and I think most of the rumours were prior to Hughes bloke coming in. And even if they started and continued after it’s probably due to the lack of information coming out.

Yes other teams and players can filter this information but I’ve treated it similarly to Mount.

Potentially we asked and then walked. Like at least with Zubimendi you can say that actually existed beyond “ITKs”

That was the source that I quoted for my post above.

It always looked like a much better deal for Newcastle than us. I wonder who initiated this.

Maybe Gordon has some quality that they thought they could develop? Maybe they thought they could sell him on at a profit? I just find him another overrated flavour of the month player.

Dont think we were. Newcastle probably wanted Gomez who may have been looking for a move, and they were facing FFP issues. We probably thought we could pick up Gordon on the cheap because of the latter. Noticeable that they then tried a cheeky bid for Quansah.

It’s James Pearce if I’m looking at the funding model of what we did last summer I can’t see how or why we would spend addition to that on Gordon.

We didn’t go near that area and the loss we posted last year would suggest it was probably only ever going be Zubimendi or that keeper.

If you look now all the rumours are rehash of the same things or listed with a load of clubs.

I don’t see why Isak would be so unrealistic (not saying it would be the right/best move for us), to be honest.

In the context of us potentially being league champions, possibly winning something else, Newcastle possibly not qualifying for the CL (outside the top 5?).

He has 3 years left on his deal and has had a contract offer for a while now, but he’s still not signing it and why would he, better not rush stupidly like Kane with his last Spurs deal.

Sure, they have certain financial power, but it’s also not like they haven’t had issues lately. Plus, he will be 26 this summer. Arguably has one big contract left at his peak at a winning club. So… now, not tomorrow. I doubt he’ll be there by 29-30, trying to win the league with Newcastle.

A potential cup probably won’t satisfy him, he’s won one with Dortmund and one with Sociedad. Enough of that level.

Sometimes it happens that a player simply becomes too good for a certain team and a transfer happens. Newcastle might use that money wisely, like we did with Coutinho’s fee.

It might be a hard one as if he’s on the move then there would certainly be competition, but I don’t see why it would be almost impossible. It would be more down to our evaluation whether it would be worth it and if he’d pick us.

Isak to Newcastle was a bit of a surprise in the first place as it seemed like bigger clubs were interested in him even then. I have not seen it reported on at all but it was the sort of move where if there was a clause that gave him ways to get out of there at a reasonable price I would not be surprised.

Given the apparent lack of options I’d go all in on Isak. We were willing to spend £100m+ on Caicedo. Isak is the real deal and seems like a decent human being too. Imagine what he’d be capable of with our midfield behind him!

Because he’d dive to our benefit.

I think it’s harsh to judge him on a rush of blood to the head. It’s not that long ago we were watching Darwin wade into the stands to fight opposition fans.

His haircut however is a considered decision and an awful one at that.
