If he’s a regen of Davies there are some big teams after him that might be disappointed lol. He looks a lot like the all action old fashioned big center forward, but can’t say I’ve watched Ipswich.
Hes better than both those.
He’s better than Giroud? France’s all time top scorer and a world cup and CL winner?
On the old fashioned big center forward rating scale, where Davies is a 1 and Shearer is a 10, Giroud is a 7? Giroud didn’t have the pace to truly scare teams. Maybe Delap does?
I don’t think a move to a big club is the best idea for Delap he’s not a elite talent in my opinion but I will say that Davies almost got those big moves a couple of times as well, he had a great first season at Bolton then stayed around that 10 goals & 5+ assists level for most of his career.
He was clumsy and not very pretty to watch but he was effective.
Zirkzee is the perfect example of how a wrong move can pretty much end a player’s career.
He may well find his footing at United, but I seriously doubt it..If he knows what is good for him, he would be banging on the door to leave…
I saw him the entirety of his final season with Bologna and always thought he would be a perfect fit for us…
Really sad…
I remember Giroud looking a bit boring in terms of style at the time and a bit at odds with how I perceived Wenger’s football (though Arsenal were going through a transitional period around the time of his signing). In fact, a few of their signings looked like that to me back then and then went on to become fantastic, if a bit underrated players (Koscielny, for example). It took me a while to realise what an intelligent player he was but maybe it took him time to find his groove in the Arsenal side that was also trying to find its groove.
In that sense, Delap might become a similar striker in time - if I was him, I’d give Brighton at least a couple of years to hone my skills. He’s a unit and defenders certainly don’t want to play against strikers who know how to use their physical attributes. If I was similarly convinced by his technical ability, I’d be the first to ask for his signature, though.
He is.
Just want to say to RER, love it! Have a view and stick to your guns.
My take on Delap is that he is not sexy, and it therefore has us hankering after others. But the striker market doesn’t really have many (any?) sure things.
At the least, if a relegated Delap is going for £30M, it represents great value. Slot likes to have six forward options, and if we are letting some of them go, I would back Delap to better the output we’ve seen this season of all of them, bar Mo Salah.
The difficulty comes if he is signed as a first choice central striker. Is he good enough? That’s where the debate lies. Maybe, maybe not. But then we might sign a player like Ekitike for 2-3 times the price, and he might have his own issues settling in the Prem.
It’s going to be an interesting summer.
Usually the feeling I have when we are mentioned at the bottom is it works on an algorithm level.
Apparently at least somewhat reliable journos are saying the name coming up most often with regards to a striker signing for us is Ekitike.
I’ve said it already - I’m getting Bellingham deal vibes with Isak. Liverpool obviously like him, he’d improve the team significantly but you could probably buy and pay the wages of two, even three players for what Newcastle want for him and what his agent would ask for.
Ekitike makes sense if he can carry over his form to Liverpool (ironically, Newcastle were on the verge of signing him two years ago, that’s when majority, if not all of us, heard of him first). That should give the club some financial breathing space needed to strengthen other positions.
As much as i like the idea of signing Isak or Alvarez, i cant help thinking price and perhaps reluctance of their clubs to sell are likely barriers to either of those moves happening. A deal like Ekitke makes sense.
We’re also being linked to a 17yo Argentine, left-footed right-winger called Mastanuono. I know nothing about him, but seems like he’s played over 40 first-team games already for River Plate, and is also being linked with moves to City, Inter and Real.
Turns 18 in August, and given it looks like we’ll have Mo for another two years, a young high-potential player who can sub on for him and play cup games initially at least, who’ll hit 20 just as Mo leaves us, looks like a decent idea on paper anyway.
Teams more often than not always look to buy young players from a country who have recently won the world cup. Happened with Spain , France before and now Argentina.
But we don’t have any Swedish players to lose on a free transfer to Newcastle United though?
He does seem to be already valued at his peak price. We tend to go for players that are undervalued (Salah) or invaluable (Alisson or VVD).
Salah at the time was considered by most to be overpriced. Its only his performances which have made him undervalued.
