The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

the rumours about his lower wage seem to pop up frequently…IF true…maybe thats harbouring some resentment and an unwillingness to sign an extention…

i understand from the players POV and if he was much more valued and larger sum would hve been offered earlier…

i get the ‘he signed the contract he should honour it blah blah blah’ angle…but if you are the 17th highest paid player at the club, and your contribution far outweighs that status…maybe he was hoping or asking for a bump before now…

would put into perspective constant rumours about Barca wanting him as maybe not barca driven?

Wouldn’t mind us getting someone younger if the contract negotiations do not work out.

The rumours come from an American sports website that has no sourcing for their stated salary, not just on him either but on any player.

They’re primarily baseball/american football and basketball sites who extended their coverage to football but have to guess at salaries as they are not publically reported, unlike in American sports.

L’Equipe:

Liverpool will go head-to-head with Manchester City for the signing of Eliesse Ben Seghir, who is valued by Monaco at €30m.

No this is not how it works.

You need to believe every single piece of bullshit as though it’s gospel, especially if it gets repeated more.

Sweeting was replying to me…i went to the trouble of using the word IF and then hypothesising the case…

dont think the sarcastic pile on after Sweetings well documented response is what the site requires

It’s not targeting you personally. It’s literally the overreaction to every single little “rumour” that comes out.

It’s ridiculous, and it’s quite clear that many of these, despite the popular imagination, are based on absolute nothing.

dunno.

i can 100% buy into a large multi national corporation (even if i love them) lowballing a 20 something kid on his value and running that contract as long as they can…

we can dismiss some gossip straight out of hand, i just thought the Luis Diaz situation had enough beleivability around it to at least discuss it in an hopefully mature manner

again…IF true…plays a major role in the conversation

You also believe in the free market, and Díaz had no shortage of suitors. So by that logic, how believable is it?

I’ve seen both Palmer and Kane rumours being peddled today. It’s going to be a rough summer for click bait.

I think the clickbait is increasingly AI driven. Someone puts a humorous Tweet about us getting Ian Rush out of retirement and “Liverpool linked to Welsh wonder striker” ends up on the 1500 different REACH titles.

It’s depressing. I can remember when the Echo and MEN were serious regional newspapers.

How long before @cynicaloldgit tells us it’s because of neoliberalism?

Because it is.

Technically 65 minutes since you ought to be counting from @RedWhippet’s post.

Seeing this is right out of the blue, it may have some legs, especially considering our recent buys.

Before I share James Pearce’s latest transfer piece from the athletic, are there any rules on this forum against sharing content from paywalled websites?

No

Probably (and if not, you dont want to tempt @Nikola into opening a thread do you  ). Better to provide a short summary?

Fair play. Basically he runs through every position in the squad with a small summary.

Not too much by way of new info but Alison has a year extension in his contract that would keep him till 2027.

We like Kerkez and Hato as an alternative.

The club see Chelsea as front runners for Huijsen.

Endo expected to STAY.

No appetite to sell Elliot, quansah or Chiesa but offers would be considered if big enough.

We consider Stiller last summer when Zubimendi deal fell through.

Usual names for strikers.
