He’s comfortable losing to Bayern. He wants to try something new and win for Bayern
Physically he is not what he was, but his injury issues have been behind him for a while. Pep has just overlooked him. Yet when he has played he has been well worth his place in the side, and so their respective performances (KDB’s when used, and City’s over the course of the season) really raise questions about Pep’s judgement here.
He is no longer an every game player on a top side, and so anyone wanting to win things is going to have to be clear eyed about what role they earmark him for. As has been pointed out that will have to be at a much reduced salary than he’s been used to. But if that sort of agreement with him can be reached there is huge upside for a team even of our quality.
As a 20 minute sub for 30 games a season he still has season defining ability
For that sort of time on the pitch, my math says his wage would need to be adjusted to about 45K per week. Plus I’d take a bit more off for his having played for cheats, bringing it to about zero.
It’s a good starting point for the negotiations - position it as him paying his footballing indulgence…his absolution for his past crimes.
You are the Dostoyevsky of footy
For what it’s worth, since FBref doesn’t have a graphical comparison, at least not in the free version:
That does not look promising from Frimpong. I put Vanderson there because some fan sites suggested him as an option, I literally hadn’t heard of him prior to that. I also included Porro because I’ve always been impressed with him and it’s a crying shame such a player plays for Tottenham.
It doesnt look good, but it is so different, even when compared against someone who is not thought to be a particularly good defender, that you have to assume that isnt a result of him doing that side of the game that poorly but of the team having a different enough shape that it doesnt put him in the position to make qualifying defensive actions.
Happy to be proven wrong if we do sign him and he turns out to be a successful player for us, but I think Frimpong is such a lazy rumour, with so many people jumping on that “do it” wagon because of his age, homegrown quota, pace and numbers.
Yeah, other than his young age, attractive price, frightening pace, productivity stats, being homegrown, what does he have to offer?
Yeah, it occurred to me as well but I also ran into a video compilation that showed his one-on-one duels… It wasn’t a good viewing. Then again, if someone made such a compilation for TAA, it would also not look good.
I liked him when I saw him in his early days from Celtic to Leverkusen. But he’s been used very high up the pitch for Leverkusen, especially when you look at average positions.
These are only numbers:
He’s been mostly a RWB, but like I said, often positioned higher than the LWB (a more combining option like Grimaldo).
I like his versatility in being able to cover the whole right flank. Given Bradley’s injuries - hopefully he continues to improve and put those behind him - and given AFCON and Mo getting older, Frimpong should see plenty of action.
Earlier at Leverkusen he was deeper. Alonso deployed him higher up more recently. He can do both positions.
I would sign him.
It is easy. You get a kid to go in and ask him for an autograph, but it turns out that when you unfold the paper it’s actually a contract! Job done. I saw it in a film, so I know it’s possible. FSG are just tightarses.
Waiting for our dexters to surprise us with a few names that have been linked absolutely nowhere with us.
Fact is he isn’t really a right sided defender anyway. He’s mainly been playing as a wing back or wide midfielder with three centre backs behind him as well as two defensive minded midfielders. Massive difference between an attacking fullback like Trent and someone like Frimpong.
Signing Ginger bollocks would be a huge step backwards.
This season also 3 midfielders, they often dropped the previous second of two attacking midfielders between the lines for Garcia.
I’m not sure. I know players can change positions, but we’re talking about really different roles here.
And then also if we want Kerkez on the opposite side… I’m not convinced we’ll go for both Frimpong and Kerkez as our two new full backs.
Yeah I’m far from convinced. Even with a fully fit Trent he’s been playing a more conservative way than we saw under Klopp when he had both Trent and Robbo flying up the wings. The fullbacks still need to attack as well as defend but they’re less of chance creators than they once were for us.
I just don’t see the fit with Frimpong at all.
Maybe this is why we’re being linked with Rodrygo …
Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all made contact to sign Brazil winger Rodrygo, 24, from Real Madrid. (Tbrfootball)
Al Hilal are showing serious interest in Liverpool’s 25-year-old Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez and 28-year-old Colombia winger Luis Diaz. (Caught Offside)
35 million Euros is 29.7 million GBP, apparently …
Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong has a £29.7m release clause in his contract, providing a major boost to Liverpool who are keen on the 24-year-old Netherlands international. (Talksport)
