The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Given the money involved, more likely we get Cherki that Wirtz? Cant be greedy and go for both

Cherki is an interesting one and someone it appears we’ve previously considered. I can’t see how he comes in without Chiesa leaving and even then I wonder how much he’d play unless Salah was more willing to have some of his game time managed.

The other possability would be if there’s truth to the Elliott rumours and we think it’s a chance to cash in on an offer above our valuation and bring in someone who Slot may play more.

Dare I say Cherki is younger, better, more physical and better suited to the way we play. He also has greater flexibility being able to play on either flank or possibly in the Szoboslai role in games where we’d need less of the hard running and more of the unlocking of a deep defensive line.

Not overly keen for Elliott to go but if we got £50m for him and Chiesa and replaced them with Cherki for £20m that seems like a good move. Especially if Slot actually plays him more often than the other two have this season.

You’ve then essentially replaced Chiesa, Elliott and Trent with Cherki and Frimpong for about even money.

Would be hilarious if he ended up at Liverpool. On Blue Loon they don’t believe Wirtz would ever meet Liverpool for talks or choose Liverpool over City. The tears and anger would be sweet.

Have they forgotten a certain Virgil van Dijk?

Let’s say that Cherki ticks the boxes that club’s analysts have put in place - he still strikes me as a player who would want to start every game and I would be concerned that he would kick up a fuss over it. That said, he looks more ready for consistent minutes than Elliott, so maybe Slot would trust such a player with more minutes…

I’m not sure he’d want to start every game but he’d definitely want more than the combined minutes Chiesa and Elliott have had.

We do also need to be mindful of Salah’s minutes. I’d not have Salah involved in the league cup at all and then there’s the AFCON too. Plenty of chances this season and Cherki will be 23 by the time Salah’s contract comes to an end. A chance to prove he’s the one to step into those shoes maybe?

Possibly a good idea. If so, he’ll just have to cop it.

What do we think the chances of Wirtz are? I’m intrigued, the more I’m thinking about it.

At first, I assumed he was going to Bayern Munich. But the German revelation that he was in England to talk to Liverpool has got me thinking.

My best guess is that the Liverpool conversation is a back up plan, in case Bayern don’t pay the money. I haven’t got a clue as to their finances, and whether or not they can drop €150M on a player. Harry Kane is their record, recently too, at €95M.

I get the feeling that we would sanction the asking price for the right player. We were in the ballpark with the Caicedo offer. There’s a sense in which Slot will be rewarded after winning the league, and he will be backed to shape his side. I think we have some very sellable assets too, that won’t affect us too much, but could bring in a lot of money, depending on how deep we go.

If Wirtz only has eyes for Bayern, then it’s game over. But if he genuinely is open to other options, we might have a chance here.

Not favorites. But I’m intrigued. Either way, we shouldn’t allow it to dominate our summer. If there’s a chance and we make our move, do it early doors so we know what’s what and can make other moves accordingly.

If we are actually talking around ~150m mark then Wirtz or Isak? Does anyone have opinions and/or rationale?

I have no idea how Wirtz is gonna fit tactically and financially though…

Szobo is the first choice AM followed by Jones or Elliott…That would mean selling Jones and/or Elliott off which will further fuck the team up in terms of HG status…

As for being a CF, I am not sure if Wirtz can handle it physically in this league…

Yeah I don’t know much about him but assuming he’s brilliant, it would require remaking the setup in the team in the area we are currently strongest while still having to find funds to fix our existing holes up front and LB/CB

Frimpong is home grown isn’t he?

Kind of helps if Elliott does indeed go. You do know we need more than 11 players mind. I know it’s a concept that football fans can’t get their head around while shouting ā€œrotate rotateā€

I think Isak is brilliant but I have a nagging doubt about his injury record. Daniel Sturridge was a naturally gifted striker, but we probably remember him more for what could have been.

I’m not sure whether Wirtz is strictly what we need, unless he is going to be the keystone of Slot’s tactical plan going forward. Then again, I remember when Salah was signed there were people setting the expectation that he wouldn’t score that many himself.

Wirtz from what I have seen, is class, he can dribble, pass and scores goals, all from an AM position. He also works hard for the team defensively and can press from the front.

Gets a big thumbs up from me.

Romano probably isn’t a thread starting journo, but looks like we’re cracking on with prepping the squad for next season

Might as well open the thread with Kerkez as the source himself given his social media activity of late, guy is clearly desperate to move here.

Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz wrapped up before the end of the season. Hughes is just desperate to get away on one of these lads trips before they head away for the summer #fomo
