We have our midfielder!!

Guys do you think 17 million + add-ons for Anrabat is a good deal? It seems Fiorentina has accepted this bid from Forest.

Why he’s still here I don’t know. Nowhere near good enough to play for us, absolutely pointless having him sit around in the U23s.

Simply put…no.

23 mins ago in the Grauniad…
It looks as if Cheick Doucoure to Liverpool won’t be happening. Although the 23-year-old was left out of Crystal Palace’s Carabao Cup victory over Plymouth last night, it seems we shouldn’t be reading anything into that. Palace have set the bar at £70m and Liverpool don’t want to cough up such a fee for the Mali international.

Very glad that we are not spending so much money on a very limited player. Endo helped lower the need for a DM from “crisis” levels to just “priority” levels.

In the last couple of days of the window… I’m more concerned about the CB position. Any good CBs with a clause we can exercise?

Not since Japp Stam sold his very overweight father christmas.

Talking of Hull, @Sweeting have you seen enough of Greaves, their young CB, to make a judgement?

Not really, Hull U21 play in the Professional Development League and it’s tough to get footage of games - or even lineups - at that level. I watched a bit of his appearances at Hull last season and the thing that stood out to me was his size. He’s a hulking great big defender, and I know the comparison won’t be appreciated but he looks physically a little like a young Harry Maguire - at least from certain angles.

One thing I did note was he goes to ground a lot to make challenges where I would prefer him to stand up and force the attacker away, rather than giving himself a chance of being beaten easily if his tackle is mistimed. Having said that Hull are shit so maybe he just has to defend a lot.

For example below he does well. His positioning has forced the attacker inside…

… then when the striker tries to body fake and drive to the middle, he reads it and stays on his feet to take the ball cleanly in the penalty area. Great defending.

However, this is more what I was talking about. Attacker cuts inside him on the run, he turns the wrong way and doesn’t know where the ball is.

image

A second later he’s twisted back around but is now playing catch up and has to leave his feet to dive in and make a challenge.

image

Luckily for him he gets the ball but it’s very close to being a bad tackle and a penalty.

Minimal scouting by me but it looks like he’s got a few rough edges.

What does the right airport for Crystal Palace mean? Does Doucoure live in the stadium?

Im struggling with this one. If we really had an interest we intended to pursue for a player the club allegedly values at 70 million would we have gone out and done the deal for Endo? I am struggling to see how this would be an AND that is still active not an OR that was closed once we pushed ahead with Endo

Tchouameni - Unavailable
Bellingham - Picked Madrid
Caicedo - Picked Chelsea
Doucoure - too expensive
Lavia - Too expensive & picked Chelsea
Kone and/or Thuram - too wank at football
Endo - Signed

Think that’s pretty much a summary, right?

Mac and Dom - signed

Thats not spend though entirely its profits and loss is more the criteria. Net spend is more the trophy a lot of our fans are obsessed with and struggle to acknowledge that if you spend a 100m on players but recieve 90 back you have infact still spent 100 million quid.

Doucoure too expensive for his ability.

If we were to sign him the first thing wouldn’t be a plane at a south London airport.

Klopp would be on teams anyhow.

If net spend really meant nothing to you as you say it does, then you wouldn’t be the least bit bothered if we sold Salah this window then and signed some dude no one had heard of for 30m to replace him…because you know, we’ve still spent 30m?

Net spend isn’t a trophy, it’s actually what a lot of major investors/businessmen look at…who cares if you’re gross profit is 10m if come the end of it after all your expenditures and overheads, you’re left with 200k net profit? Do you as an employee look at your gross pay or do you focus what figure is written at the bottom of that payslip once your pension and NI is deducted? Net spend, net profit, net pay…this is what matters.
