I can’t see any other reason Isak would contemplate a move to Saudi at this stage of his career.
CB is not surprising, still expect it to be Guehi.
Isak the only other forward we’ve really been linked with but I don’t see us getting him in when we’ve already outlaid so much on Wirtz and now Ekitike. Can see Mateta as a relatively budget option, but think Palace would want more than we’d pay. Dunno who else we’d be looking at. Then again, depends on Bayern stumping up enough for Diaz.
Not liking the suggestion for either attacker or CB option from Ben Jacobs there. Arne was more of a midfielder in his day and I’m not convinced he has the pace to play on the counter or as part of a high line. Kenny Dalglish he is not! ![]()
He definitely lacks King Kenny’s prodigious backside in order to shield the ball
Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyonnais and Rodrygo are the two names I’ve seen mentioned in rumours about potential Diaz replacements should he leave
Guehi would be nice for being another good homegrown player and would save us from other clubs knowing we have to sell because we have too many non-homegrown players and trying to under bid because of it.
If we end up going for a different non homegrown center back, we might need to clear out two squad places first.
I wouldn’t rule out an approach by Liverpool for Antony Gordon.
We did want him last year.

I would hate it if that happens. He’s a snide prick.
But he ticks the homegrown and left winger vacancy.

Gordon would be a lot of money for a homegrown player to back up Gakpo. Doesn’t feel like it would be worth it.
Sure. Depends on the price being negotiated for.
Newcastle have had a shit transfer window despite Howe being the genius.
They seem to want a second CF to play in a two striker formation. That could see Gordon being not so vital anymore.
I hope it doesn’t happen but using the cash that we get for Diaz for Gordon if we don’t get the likes of Rodrygo , Fofana (as was mentioned by some posters here) isn’t that farfetched.
While there have been links with Gordon, they were at the loudest when Newcastle looked to have some urgent FFP issues and the recruitment team thought a deal could be done on the cheap. I don’t see Newcastle being that willing to sell him at a discount this summer.
It’s interesting though that Newcastle’s two signings so far this window are both wingers…
And they still went in for Ekitike with reasoning by some being that they can go for a two striker system.
Just not sure if they are having a plan on how to approach the coming season. Maybe it depends on the targets that they do get.
Speak for yourself…
I hope we don’t sign Gordon. I could almost see the sense of it last summer after he had a good season and Newcastle were in financial difficulty, so there might have been a good deal to be had.
Since then the price has gone up and up, the player’s level has reverted to the mean, and we have gone from strength to strength, winning the Premier League and now signing loads of quality as Slot refreshes the pack to take on all-comers in the next cycle.
Gordon is a clear no for me.
Only way we should be looking at Gordon is if we’re branching out into other sports and need someone to head up the Liverpool diving team
We’ve wanted him for about 2-3 years I think it’s a lazy link at best.
I think like Mount it’s a ship that has sailed. And thankfully I’ll be glad he’s not good enough and his main asset won’t be a success at Liverpool… diving.
Yeah Guehi would make our summer spending beyond my dreams, also, I wonder if young Rio is doing enough in pre season to be a good squad option on the left if Diaz leaves. He did look raw with his link up play and final ball for the youth teams last year but playing with the 1st teamers his decision making seems to be improving.
Pretty sure we’d give Rio Ngumoha a chance before signing anyone notionally to fill a homegrown spot, least of all Gordon.
Only exception to that would be if Gordon’s first name is Kaide.
