The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

No we have to get something. We spent 12m on him

Not a big amount in hindsight for a club the size of ours.

It’s something else if we let Nunez go for next to nothing. Chiesa was only spent as a gamble. We knew the risks before hand.

I have to leave it here… Just for the ā€œSalah danceā€. :joy:

So, now Sesko is going to NUFC, does that mean MUFC will be in for Darwin?

Why would you wish such torment and suffering on any player, even one that has not lived upto our expectations?

No, he’s good lad. He won’t go there. Utd will try for Ollie Watkins, he’ll turn them down and Utd will end up with DCL. Could it be better than that?

I don’t get why this is a thing? It’s not like joining Newcastle would be against all prevailing wisdom. I think Alex Ferguson would struggle to make a case for the lad to go to Man Utd.

There’s some sort of a complex at Newcastle but one that struggle to define. Yes, they’ve been trophyless for so long and they had their share of near misses in the 90s but there’s always a been a sense of pride there, especially during the Ashley years. With that stadium and that support, they really were an impressive fan base, at least to me, and I don’t remember them calling Liverpool fans names or insulting the memory of Hillsborough victims.

Since the takeover, though, there’s been a marked change in discourse. I won’t be going into politics but their mouthpieces have been busy creating a sentiment of a club that is prudent and on the up but one that is not rich and won’t be going against PSR and buying like other stated-owned clubs. It got boring after a while, to be honest, and the sooner they shed that artificial image, the better chances they’ll have of enticing the Å eÅ”kos of this world. It’s not like they haven’t spent a penny since the Saudi takeover.

Is there any truth that we apparently have opened talks with RM for the transfer of Rodrigo. If this is true I would not like to play poker against Hughes or Edward’s.

He would be great to play Diplomacy against

Definitely an additional CB is needed. Looking at preseason, Endo and Grav will be used as backup CB’s when really necessary.

That goal of his is going to help the cause. He’s not weak on his wrong foot.

Joyce says we’re looking at young CBs round Europe.
Name drops Giovanni Leoni of Parma. Anyone seen him play? (edit: a quick google says he played 17 Serie A games last season, scored 1 goal, and is only 18 years old)

Also maintaining the link with Guehi

Think we are going to see more of Rio as this season goes on.

I wouldn’t be complaining if we get two defensive reinforcements including Guehi in and call this window done.

Regardless of whether we get Isak.

A profile of the Leoni from Calcio done just over a year ago while he was playing Serie B football at 17; seems he’s a highly rated talent in Italy:

Giovanni Leoni, 1.93 m tall, physically strong and ambidextrous, known to all as ā€œLeoncino,ā€ is a highly agile and compact central defender, with a good head, looking to Smalling and Van Dijk (his dream is to play in the Premier League, where he watches every game in his spare time, or for Roma, where he’s a fan) as role models – as he stated in an old interview. Leoni also possesses another key characteristic: versatility, which has allowed him to function both as a pure central defender and as a right-sided ā€œarmā€ in a three-man defense, where Pirlo has been deploying him in recent league matches. These are positions in which he has also been able to showcase other key qualities: order and precision in closing down and preventative marking, and skill in build-up play. A young, modern central defender, well-structured, patient, disciplined, polite, and determined, capable of both defending and building play.

The young central defender’s story begins a long time ago. First Roma, then a move to Veneto for family reasons. Destination Padua. His journey began with Vigontina, a Veneto club where Leoni moved with his family at the age of 5, before moving on to Cittadella and finally to Padua, where he progressed from the Under-13s to the first team. Finally, in January, he arrived at Marassi, on the Sampdoria side. And now, interest from Serie A has been piqued, a rapid but continuing ascent. In short, Leoni is destined to continue making waves.
