The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Are you sure? That’s exactly what we’ve got for Morton. Elliot would cost a bit more tbf

I don’t see that anywhere.

I assume he would be more than 15m

That’s because I wasn’t responding to your point.

@Quicksand It was pretty clear from reports that Diaz wanted to earn more money, and that we weren’t willing to meet his demands and were instead happy to let his contract run down. I don’t blame him, nor do I blame us in this scenario. Very good player on his day, a tad inconsistent, and I think selling him was the right move for all parties given his apparent desire to make one last big contract before he passes his sell-by date.

The stance has been 40 +buy back/sell on, or 50 up front. Definitely nowhere near as low as Morton and not in Lyon price range.

I thought that we wanted £40M maybe they are confusing it with the Tyler Morton transfer which was £15M but I thought Elliott was going to Leipzig?

That in part may depend on how Arne wants to set the team up? There was some discussion last season about Diaz probably not being a great fit for Arne’s likely set up and the reported attempt to swap him for Alvarez possibly supports that. This summer we’ve picked up Ekitike and are expected to bring in Isak.

Also, Wirtz can easily play from the left as well as attacking midfield and as a no. 10

I assume this someone making up a transfer rumour whilst doubting themselves and showing some thinking about it.

Truly we’ve reached peak garbage.

Limie is reportedly interested in an evening with Ana De Armis, however the likelihood is low and he may have to consider more realistic opportunities

We need to sign two forwards. We’ve tragically lost Jota, sold Diaz and Nunez is leaving. Also, we lose Salah to AFCON in December. Add to that, we need a centre back and there’s still plenty of transfer business to be done.

Slot did address that in his pre-match press conference, and suggested that Frimpong could be a cover for Salah. (he was very cagey about it as you might imagine.)

This summer was always going to be a period of significant change in terms of player personnel, we’re building and setting ourselves up to be a force for the next 4-5 years & the intention will be to very much go again until the cycle comes to an end. Rinse and repeat.

Find it hilarious the rival fanbases losing their marbles over our summer as if this is the norm for us, in reality they’re just resorting to whatever means to supersede their anxiousness.

We don’t want to be signing two more forwards when Rio is coming through.

His name is Rio and he dances through your lads :musical_notes:

We absolutely do.

If we go into the season with him as our fifth option of five (Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike, Isak, Ngumoha) then we’re leaving ourselves short.

Jota and Chiesa were fifth and sixth on minutes last year from our six forwards. They did 2,300 minutes between them or the equivalent of 25.5 full games. You don’t want a 17 year old playing that much and that’s before we address the Salah absence at the most intense time of the year.

He’s a bonus we should be finding game time for, not someone that’s getting 25 games a year.

Yep Rio as 6th forward (replacing Chiesa) at the start of the season is okay; as 5th forward it’s too much (assuming we’re continuing with 3 up top)

If Frimpong’s versatility was taken into account to allow Bradley to continue to develop and if Wirtz was thought of as an occasional solution on the left so that Szob could play more… then I don’t see the big problem or need for 2.

Chiesa could play more. He shouldn’t be counted as a regular, but he could definitely play more.

At the moment, I don’t see 2 quality options, left on the market and available at less than silly money, who will improve us.

Let’s buy to get better not for the sake of it.

So Frimpong plays RW whilst Salah is gone and we’re relying on Bradley to potentially do 90 minutes for 10 games in a row at the busiest time of the year? No thanks.

As for Chiesa, he won’t be here.

So it’s not buying for the sake of it, it’s necessity.

That doesn’t sound anywhere close to necessity.

First Chiesa not being here is speculation. We can hold him if we don’t find better. Are we obliged to sell him? No… thus we have a choice.

Bradley doesn’t need to play 10 games of 90 in a row. Gomez may take a couple games or some minutes. Szob could take RW (like he has for many games in his career) and let Frimpong play some RB.

Even if we just buy one forward, I can’t imagine your scenario happening. Things are not that rigid. We have options.

Would I love two forwards and to also get a great CB. Yes. Not trying to be a joy killer but at the moment, the pickings are quite slim when it comes to quality forwards.
