Okay. I negotiate down to 399m next summer with Saudis giving him on loan with 100% of salary paid for this season.

He wonāt press for a move. And quite frankly from what has been said in the media , a total class human being which is probably more important.
The fact is that Salah once he returns to Egypt will earn a lot more money if he stands for office than what he earns in football.

For someone who has been pushing for a leadership role at our club for a long time and now has finally gotten it, and someone who clearly wants to be winning things with us, itās surprising how many think he will jump ship at the first available opportunity.
Makes me think itās all about premature psychological compensation for the remote possibility that he might actually moveā¦

How does any of that make any difference to anything? āOh itās okay, his injuries are related but not the same so they donāt really count.ā
Fact is, Matip has missed 103 games in 7 years. An average of 15 games a season. At most a team might play maybe 60 games in a season. So heās missed more than 25% of games in his time here because of injuries.
If you want to argue that those numbers donāt suggest heās injury prone then fine. But it wonāt help us come his next injury and weāre forced to play a 20 year old with no top flight experience.
Well even his big mouth agent hasnāt said a thing since August where he rejected it stating the contract they signed.
I have a feeling if the club agreed he would go but I donāt think he will agitate for a move in the next month nor will the club sell.
Back in May there may have been temptation but the fact we refused it almost straight away tells you a lot.

You said we have to consider the responsibility of our 5th choice CB as being higher than it otherwise would given one of the 4CBs ahead of him has to serve double duty as RB. It is a good consideration if that is in fact true about Gomez, but my contention is that it almost certainly isnāt. Sure, technically Gomez could play the RB role different than Trent does, but you donāt change an entire team structure to accommodate 1 change in personnel.
The options seeming are
- Ask Gomez to be a direct replacement asking him to do something he really cannot do
- Ditch the approach and play Gomez in part of our old 4-3-3
- Find a way to have a player from the left be the inverted FB. Tsimi did that role in pre-season so itās an option. Maybe. And if we take it then it does mean we have 3 of our 4 CBs playing in a given game (assuming Robbo misses out with the Tsimi switch) and with only 1 absence Quansah is on the bench.
- We just find the best stand in for Trent for the role he is playing now. Iād imagine Endo or Bajcetic would both be at least fine there for the odd game, and maybe better.
1 and 2 seem way out for me. 3 seems viable but unnecessary given the viability of 4.

I donāt think weāve been credibly linked to a single defender all window, which probably means the club are very high on Quansah. Heād not have gotten in the game last week if we werenāt.
Personally, i think id have sold Gomez (west ham i think were interested) and brought in another potential first team defender, as it stands looks like next summer will be the defense turn over, like attack was last year, and midfield was this year. We could still go in January for someone i guess, but overall happy with the business weāve done.
