Im astounded people are worried about us only having four centre backs to cover two positions but would be comfortable with potentially five forwards to cover three positions.

Given one of them will miss the Christmas period and one will be just 17 that’s pinning an awful lot of trust in Isak’s fitness should he arrive, Ekitike to settle into the PL and then some square pegs in round holes albeit square pegs with some slightly rounded edges.

God only knows why anyone is putting any faith in Chiesa contributing, let alone being here, is a mystery to me.

I’m not going to be crying if we sign another forward as well as Isak, but I don’t think the club should entertain buying an out and out left winger.

I think we have potentially more than 5, and I suspect if the club feel they are short of suitable forward options we won’t be just picking up Isak during the rest of the window.

Because Konate has had injuries, Gomez lots of injuries and VVD is getting on a bit and is over used.

Who is the 4th CB? Thats my concern that we only have 3. If you include Chiesa it’s 6 forwards is it not if you add Isak? Then you have Wirtz, Jones and Frimpong plus Dom.

It will be six if we add Isak and we count Rio as part of the six. Might be worth keeping Doak at that point.

Also on a separate note, when Darwin is confirmed, we only have the space in the squad for one more non-homegrown player. We are likely keeping that open for Isak for now. If we want other signings then him, they need to be homegrown or have someone non-homegrown to be reliably leaving.

There are multiple ways to address our forward rotation if we run into absence issues with our main forwards. We could move Wirtz to the front line. We could comfortably play a 4-4-2 or even a 4-2-3-1 with Wirtz flanked by Szobo and Frimpong if needed behind a striker.

Our CB rotation is far more precarious because of the Konate and Gomez injury issues.

I’m afraid we’ve maybe gambled and waited too long. If Chelsea bid now, they’ll have the advantage anyway with their sell on clause and then this matching right clause as well .

A lot could depend on his feelings towards Chelsea. On the one hand he was in their system for a long time, on the other they ditched him before he’d barely made a senior appearance for them. Could be he harbours some resentment for that. Or could be he might see it as an chance to make up for an opportunity missed.
