The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

A matching right is, at a basic level, a promise from A to B that if A receives an offer from another party (C), it will communicate it to B and that if B is willing to make the same offer as C, A will contract with B and not with C.

Just in case someone wants to watch a bit of that young Italian Centerback

A ā€œmatching clauseā€ isn’t worth a shite if he says he only wants Liverpool.

If he chooses being apart of Chelsea’s 95 man squad over Liverpool… then bullet fucking dodged.

I assume we will see some movement next week.

Whether it’s the Italian lad, the Greek lad or Guehi.

Square-ish pegs, roundish holes. Or change the set up entirely and move players from their best positions. Wirtz and Gakpo aren’t going to play the least bit the same. At a push or to see out ten minutes, fine. But a go to option to push your new Ā£100m signing out of position, no thanks.

It’s no different from saying Robbo, Gravenberch or Endo can play centre back so what’s the worry.

Guaranteed starter though + stays in London, might be a factor.

Wirtz played predominzntly from the left half space for Bayer, so he has no problem covering for Gakpo, although I feel young Rio is the backup and his performances season shows he deserves the ooportunity.

The players that we have signed, apart from Kerkez seem to be versatile and can play in multiple positions.

He played in a two behind a central striker. Not the same as a wide forward in a three.

You buy Wirtz for his creativity. You don’t then stick him on the opposite side of the attacking line up to your most potent goal threat. You also don’t pay Ā£100m for a lad and then shift him away from his best position because he could do a job there.

ā€œCome to Liverpool and you’ll be a back up for Cody on the left when we need you and this literal child we have needs a break.ā€ Pretty sure that won’t have been in our sales pitch to him.

I agree as he really wants Liverpool we need now to move quick and possibly swallow our pride and meet CP halfway on the fee.

This is another one where we must not dilly-dally and put in a bid ASAP if he is intent on joining his previous manager at inter then we will have to rival Bournemouth for theLille CH who is to replace Zabarnyi who is going to PSG now for €55M.

This guy wants to Win the league not rejoin a club who tossed him like a dirty rag.

What did I say as to who I thought was the back up, also, regarding Wirtz, I agree I want him as an attacking midfielder but even when playing there for Bayer he tends to drift into the left channel.

Get off you high horse, even Slot as said he can play there.

Not That I always believe AI

"Under Arne Slot at Liverpool, he’s expected to feature in the attacking midfield positions, potentially as a number 10 or in a role that allows him to drift from the left side, according to OneFootball and Sky Sports.

Positioning and Tactical Flexibility:

  • Attacking Midfield (No. 10):

Wirtz has excelled in this role, showcasing his playmaking and goal-scoring abilities.

  • Left Wing/Inverted Winger:

He can also operate effectively on the left, cutting inside to use his right foot, or as an inverted winger where he can link up with overlapping full-backs.

Sign Guehi and Leoni. Leave Leoni to keep cooking in Parma for a year, then when he joins the party next summer he will have more experience under his belt and be ready to contribute.

We will also know more about the other central defenders at the club, and how to shape the pack moving forward.

Liverpool no longer buy in singles.

To be clear, I do think we need to add to our forward line. I’m just explaining why my angst about the lack of CB depth is far greater. While I think we have lots of formational versatility up front, our back line doesn’t have that. I can surmise a credible attack with two forwards down. I cannot surmise a credible defense with two CBs down. I’m not comfortable playing Endo or Gravenberch or Robbo at CB for any more than a few minutes.

See his buddy chalobah. Called back when he didn’t want to be. Now still at Chelsea and being overlooked again

Different players playing on the left doesn’t mean they all have the same skills and are being used in the same way. Gakpo/Diaz on the left is not the same as Coutinho/Wirtz. Remains to be seen how we get the width when Wirtz is on the left (as Kerkez has been tucking inside more on his side), but it’s an option and it’s not really a wild one, he’s not being asked to play LB or never abandon the touchline. You’ll still see him come inside between the lines.

Fully agree but I don’t think it’s a case of one is more pressing than the other. At this point we’re short in both attack and at CB. I get we’re chasing Isak and I suspect that does eventually happen but the season kicks off in less than a week and I don’t want to see us shoving Wirtz out wide or Endo to centre back.

Both areas need sorting and I whilst I think one CB would suffice for the defence I don’t think Isak alone suffices for the attack.
