The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Maybe he looked at Trent and especially Neco and thought “I’m having none of that”. I’ve had my doubts about his development because I wasn’t sure how it would be mapped out - he didn’t set youth football at Liverpool alight but he was outstanding for Netherlands at right back. I did think he’d be a proper footballer in some role, I just didn’t have a clue about which one. It’s a shame, though, it’s a healthy profit but he’s a player that I think will have a bright future.

10m for Hoever is a terrific deal. I would take that in a heart beat.

There is no guarantee that Hoever will ever turn into a good player and having Williams surpass him at RB + Koumetia pass him at CB doesn’t bode too well from a peer comparison standpoint.

We seem to sell with clauses (nowadays) if we believe in them. So if we aren’t then that says a lot about how much Klopp and our coaches value him. I think there will be clauses though.

Hoever is in a similar situation to Brewster. He needs regular games at a level above U23s now so he either goes on loan (if he can still see a pathway to the Liverpool senior team at the end of it) or he goes on a permanent deal.

I really like Hoever and I think he’ll become a cracking player. Wolves would be a good fit for him as well (he impressed against them last year, I think?). These are the kind of deals we’re getting good at - not stagnating a young player’s career, getting a good fee, and retaining an economic interest in their future value.

I wasn’t expecting Hoever to go but there’s logic to it. If we get £10m plus in this market that’s pretty good and perhaps the club will raise some good revenue from sales of fringe players after all. Hopefully it means there might be one or two further additions after Thiago as well.

I’m not sure where he would get games for us. Williams will pick up games at right back ahead of him, we’ve got loads of midfielders now, and at CB there are both young options like Koumetio, and older options who will need CB playing time like Fabinho (like the cup rounds to allow him more experience if called upon in more important games to play CB)

I wondered when this one was going to come up and when I saw the Hoever links I thought that this became more likely. There have been rumours of our interest in Jota for a while now. Could be a good addition but would prefer someone with more pace.

Minamino, Thiago and Jota as our last 3 attacking signings?

Is Klopp trying to troll Pep by beating him at his own game?

I like the Jota link too, nice footballer.

To be honest, I completely missed those rumours, though Nuno said the other night that Jota was left out of the team even though he was supposed to be a part of it. I assumed he’d be off but I never suspected that Liverpool would be one of the interested parties. I think he’s a decent player, even more than that, but never struck me as someone whose level is much higher than Wolves’ at this moment, no disrespect meant.

Looks like hoever is being used as a sweetener to the Jota deal.

We might need to sell some other fringe players though

Could be a very busy week. Rumours of Wilson, Brewster, Hoever, Origi, Shaqiri, Grujic, Karius all leaving with Thiago coming in and rumours of Sarr and/or Jota and a CB to follow.

Not beyond the realms of possibility that we end up adding Tsimikas, Thiago, Sarr and/or Jota and a solid CB and still generate more from sales than we spend.

Hearing that there are possibly talks ongoing about Jota makes this make even more sense. The Jota story excites me…not great numbers, but he is a massive pain in the arse who you can see being at a fork in the road to either continue as an ok player or move on to being a really good one.

Obviously if our medical people reach the same conclusion, fair enough. They will have access to all the scans and info, and will also know what expertise we have in house, and elsewhere. If it is irretrievable so be it.

If they think they can do something, bring it on.

Fucks sake Liverpool im trying to finish work for the week. All this waiting round and then everything on a Friday at 4pm.

Proper trolling behaviour this from Mike Edwards and the gang.

Well… have to say that I’d feel a whole heck of a lot better about losing Hoever if we added Jota.

Damn, with Thiago added and if Jota comes in, that’s a bloody fantastic looking squad!

I imagine it is Sarr or Jota not both - at least not yet - but if we do sign them I can’t wait to see what twitter will find to complain about.

I think Jota is not in the Wolves squad for tomorrow

I’d guess Watford have priced us out with their high valuation of Sarr and Jota is the alternative.

There’s a possibility that Jota is a smokescreen to force Watford’s hand but I don’t see it, Wolves wouldn’t have been leaving him out of their squads if there wasn’t concrete interest (unless he’s going elsewhere). With the two clubs agreeing a deal over Hoever I’d guess that this is deal doesn’t have a long way to go.

Joyce, Reddy, Pearce etc also don’t normally confrm concrete interest until the deal is practically done. Whenever they all say the same thing at the same time it pretty confirms that we are quite far down the line.

I can’t remember much of Jota, apart from a couple of lovely headers, iirc.
Not a fast player, if I’m remembering, but looked like a proper footballer.
If we sign him I’m sure Trent will stick a few on his bonce and I’m sure he will be neat and tidy, linking it up and scoring goals.

It’s all heating up.

Seems in the Covid environment FSG have said raise money to buy players. We moan about that a little, but it’s sensible. We have good players and can raise money and not really affect the team. By the end of the window it might be Tsimikas, Thiago, Sarr/Jota (or both, if say Brewster and Origi move on). With perhaps up to half a dozen youngsters and fringe players being moved on to pay for it - Grujic, Wilson, Shaqiri, etc.

Big Mikey is in the mood.

For me Jotta edges Sarr out with his ability to play upfront.
