was infatuated with him even before he went to dortmund, one of my personal favorites. but i don’t think we ever had any interest, and at this point the upside is quite diminished imo

One thing we absolutely do not do under Klopp is sign players who are at less than peak confidence levels.
To start, look at the players we went for and missed out on. Lemar, Fekir both had brilliant seasons, we couldn’t get the transfer to work, they both had stinkers the following year and that was the end of that.
Now look at the transfers that happened. Ali, Salah breakout years for Roma, Mane and Virg at Soton. Keita at RBL.
We just don’t touch players that would require so much work just to get back on the horse, let alone moving to another country, accepting another language and culture and building a new personal life.
Still need to settle the vertical leap issue before we move on to that one…

After not even being the best players that season when their clubs got relegated I’m not sure Wijnaldum, Robertson and Shaqiri had great confidence levels. They were all rescue jobs and we were, by far, the best team even showing remote interest in them.

I’d still like to see the earlier rumors of Kristoffer Ajer come back. His agent has already said he won’t renew there (Signed to ‘22) and the team said they won’t stand in his way of leaving after flaming out of CL. Feels like another backup candidate who works out well.
