…and bloody hard work on his part. He was thrown in to the Lion’s den and did much more than could have been expected of someone with his capabilities. I’d rather have someone like him, who gives his utmost, than others with far more talent who can’t be arsed.
So Bolton under Allerdyce as opposed to Barca under Rijkaard? Other way round for me but ideal would be the talented guys buying in and working as hard as the untalented guys. But no matter how hard they work untalented guys aren’t ever reaching the top levels of the sport, ability counts for too much.
100% buddy, but that only gets you so far, fundementally he isn’t good enough for our style and requirement from our center backs. That’s not a disservice for what he did though, stepped up when we needed it most.
I’m going to regret this obviously but I reckon Keita smashes it next season. His talent is undeniable, Pep was saying he did 50 keepy up’s with a tennis ball wearing flip flops for fucks sake.
I’d always listen to Sweeting on things like that when comes to youth sides, he’s been to enough youth games and had enough conversations with various people in the past that what sets his opinions on matters of attitude etc. can probably be safely relied upon.
The handbrake is only sales both from a squad space and finances point of view. I believe that the club wants to shift £50m worth of players first before it makes further additions. Hopefully that’s all in the pipeline for the near future.
I think we probably have the finances to do another buy without sales but our space is maxed out and we need to make a couple.
Grujic might be down on pre Covid levels but we weren’t ever getting 15m for Phillips until 5 months ago, sorry anyone who thinks we were is overevaluating.
However it looks like we may now and not to mention that 3 month period also got us CL football which he helped contribute to us achieving.
As for the “handbrake” it’s again that they are literally getting nothing, the club will probably need a cash boost from sales but as others have mentioned we are at the limit on squad.
If the RedBird investment gave us the opportunity to continue to do transfer business at approximately pre covid levels, then that’s what we are seeing. It bought Konate. Good player, will help us continue with the high line, taking it to the opposition, and not being too vulnerable at the back due to his pace, strength and aerial ability.
Beyond that it might be sales to get two more players, and that’s what it looks like. Plus a smattering of talented kids.
We have a group of players to sell who barely have an impact on the first team. It should buy us a Saul/Neuhaus/whoever AND a Malen/Doku/Aouar, or something like that.
I’m sure we have the financial facility to add two more players before sales, but it possibly hinders our negotiating position, if we look too bloated and in need of making room on the list. So arguably we are lining up deals and not announcing them until the decks are somewhat cleared, OR we have several irons in the fire and are happy to wait to see what advantageous circumstance unfolds as the window progresses, especially if some clubs find themselves desperate to do business to weather the covid storm.
Was that the Bolton team with Jay Jay Okocha? He was the ultimate couldn’t be arsed talent.
Obviously the ideal is hard working talented players like Mane, VVD, Robbo etc, but players like Phillips are to lauded for their application and attitude. He’s clearly not good enough for us long term, but there’s no reason to disrespect him after the contribution he made last season.
The rumor now is that the Donyell Malen transfer to Dortmund is stalling because of the 40m euros demanded to complete the deal. Should LFC swoop in and steal him from Dortmund at around that price or is it highly unlikely?
No mate we shouldn’t. The fee issue is to do with Raiola so fuck him. I personally don’t care how good a player is I wouldn’t be happy lining his pocket.
