The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

He was born in Sunderland was the first thing I spotted.

Never heard of him; but a combination of calls from Klopp and Hendo would do the convincing surely.

His father, Claudio, was an American great. I remember him dominating while in college at Virginia. Went on to play in Germany and then Sunderland and City in the early 2000s.

I think the peak of Claudio’s career was a long run at Rangers. Us Americans have high hopes for Gio and the current crop of very young players in his and Pulisic’s age group who are getting chances at big European clubs that very few Americans have ever gotten in the past. I’d be over the moon if Gio or one of them was able to to make it at Liverpool.

I still wouldn’t put it past us to bring in Kabak or another CB before the window closes, especially with Matip’s annual months-long injury to navigate. Edwards might try to squeeze Schalke to drop their fee as we approach the deadline.

Omar Colley’s release clause is £10.8. Seems rather reasonable in today’s market.

Edwards just upped the price another 7m i think

The BBC now running with Mbappe, meaning
well nothing really as he is off to spain

Transfer rumours: Mbappe, Alli, Suarez, Morata, Brewster, Telles, Arias - https://www.bbc.com/sport/54244048

That’s not the BBC. That’s their gossip column, which is merely collating stories from elsewhere.

There’s not really anything to say on the Mbappe thing. We know he wants to leave next summer, we know he won’t sign a contract extension, we know PSG will want to sell him next summer whilst they can, we know Liverpool admire him, we know Real admire him and we know (as things stand) they’re probably the only clubs that could make a realistic attempt at signing him. Klopp has been an admirer since before his breakout season at Monaco I’m sure we are still interested if anything becomes possible. Klopp said that we couldn’t afford him and neither could anyone else. Eventually clubs will be able to afford him that may include us depending on what happens with the coronavirus.

The thing is, he’s going to want to be on 300k plus pw. Even if we could mathematically afford it, could we afford the dressing room unrest that might bring? It’s just not in the club’s or Klopp’s DNA to go for a big superstar who will unbalance the team. We are constantly looking for players who fit the mould and the direction of the club, and a ‘galactico’ signing like this does neither. Great player, no doubt, but far more likely to end up at Real with Zidane than here with us. Not a message a lot of people want to hear, I realise, but I can’t see it happening.

If, and it’s possibly the biggest if ever, but if Mbappe was to join next summer it will be because one of Sadio or Mo is off, possibly to PSG or Madrid.

I’m not yet ready to say goodbye to either but if it was one or the other, who would you rather keep between the two of them?

Think im going with keeping Mane.

Do you not think City should be added to a list of potential suitors.

You mean unlike Thiago? The wage difference between what Salah is currently on and what Mbappe is currently on isn’t as big a difference as believed anyway.

I think he’d only go to a club with standing and history in the game which limits it to only Liverpool, United, Barca, Real and Bayern and maybe Juventus. But only a few of them could potentially add some one big time like that at the moment.

This is where it gets tricky because between ManĂ© and Salah I’d keep ManĂ© but if we’re getting rid of one because MbappĂ© is coming in then Salah complements MbappĂ© better.

I think it might very much depend on how Elliott’s progressing. If he’s a generational talent and is ready for first team action then maybe he takes Salah’s spot in rotation with Sadio (who might also rotate with MbappĂ© and Bobby on the left and through the middle)?

Why am I indulging this fantasy?!

He’s totally coming.

Maybe we don’t sell either of them, Bobby becomes more of an AM, and our forward line is then ManĂ© MbappĂ© Salah? :astonished:

Madrid have the Zidane factor who is basically a god in France so i can see Madrid being a huge factor for him. For us Mbappe has a chance to be part of something exciting and work with one of the most dynamic exciting coaches in the world.

So no fans in October?

Oh well, we’ll just have to sell a few more players than planned.

:joy:

In all seriousness, by this time next year, having had a net spend of zero for three years (Presuming we get a few out), and with the Nike deal a year old and starting to bear fruit, and having added another league or European Cup, we are totally in the conversation.

We can promise him elite level football with a team used to winning everything, playing under Klopp and alongside world class players, and he does want to play for Real he can go there after four years and still only be in his mid twenties.

What’s not to like?
