The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Various comments he’s made regarding further additions over the last few weeks.

I’m really not worried about the likes of Minamino being our 5th choice attacker.

He’ll score goals if he gets the games. And if he is on the bench then Klopp won’t be afraid to select him. But just like Konate and Gomez, he’ll have to bide his time.

Honestly , sometimes we can be too overconfident. Im sorry to say this, but the squad is simply not the same squad it was 2 to 3 years ago. ALOT has changed already never mind the loss of form of Origi. your reasoning is we have supplemented them with… Harvey, Curtis and Konate.

We dont know if the other teams have reached our quality or not, but we do know we have lacked the intensity we had when we won the title. That much is clear to see. And to solve the issues we have alot of “ifs” and variables we cannot account for. If firminos injury is serious, are you really comfortable with just Jota and Origi moving foward in that position. Whats even funnier is even the people who are optimistic have a problem with Ox, Origi and Minamino, rather than get behind those lads. Lets admit it, Chelsea are still making moves despite their very very strong european winning squad. We are just sitting on our laurels. I suppose thats ok, but lets not lie to ourselves and deny that the teams around us have all gotten stronger and this will truly show its head once the fixtures pile up.

Do elaborate?

I’m not sure if I’m simply misremembering that season, but I’m fairly certain we weren’t that intense either. We simply got lucky a fair bit, besides being able to wear teams down. It wasn’t so much intensity as consistency.

Minamino?

Who?

They literally just bought Lukaku because they didn’t have any good striker. Let’s not pretend Chelsea are some great team just because they happened to win the European Cup. They somehow contrived to finish behind us last season, despite how horrendous it got for us at times.

All that and you’re still missing @JU97ICE’s point that it’s all dependent on your perspective. If you take the perspective that last season is our normal, then of course you’ll be panic stations. If you take the perspective that last season was a catastrophe the likes of which few teams have ever seen, then you’ll be more optimistic.

I think that is more a tactical tweak or natural evolution as we play against teams who play deep against us and have more possession. The upshot is our team is fitter at the end of the season than it probably was in previous seasons.

Just a reminder, we were pretty much most pundits favourites for the title heading towards Christmas last year, and we finished the last 10 games of the season as the most inform team. Given the injuries, and loss of form of our forwards, what was the other teams’ excuses?

I don’t.

So he started half the games.
Then got dropped then come back when season was over and saints couldn’t get relegated.

Bloody troll @ubermick how could you leave out Milan Jovanovic???

I don’t know what Klopp really thinks but it’s reasonable to have a guess from his actions. The fact that Origi is being left out of match day squads and that Minamino was loaned out when Jota was injured would suggest that he feels at least one of those two are not indispensable and could be upgraded on.

Minamino was loaned out at a time when (a) Jota was supposed to be returning sooner than he actually did, and (b) we needed to free up a spot for Kabak.

Which forward would you have on the bench ahead of everyone else? Isn’t it a statement of how our depth is actually rather good, that we can afford to leave forward options out of the squad altogether?

Which is different than “couldn’t get in there”

End of the day the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I personally feel funds were there but the prices still seem a little silly.

Who knows who we approached, if we end losing the title due to injuries up top then you will have your answer if we win the title then Klopp and the team get to be justified.

I don’t think we are that far off, I was personally a bit worried about Chelsea but beyond a bit of a luck they didn’t look anything special on Saturday.

Lukaku seemed to be more of the version I remember from a few years back. Man City are going in without replacing Aguero and Man Utd well I’m not sure what they’ve actually done, they seemed to have bought well and yet the more you watch them the more the holes seem to appear.

Look ill just summarise in total. I actually dont mind if we dont do business etc and if the club has chosen not to bolster the squad thats fine. My perspective is that last season we saw that we lost something very precious that we had before. And thats the anfield record. Fans being back in the stadium will help, but not against the stronger teams.

I personally want to believe Minamino will come good, but there has been no evidence in terms of match selection that he will be selected even with Firminos injury.

This is basically the summary of business done over the last few years. Jota being the most important signing over all of them. Thank god they bought Jota despite what some people were saying last season when we bought him. Thiago i feel was a much needed solid purchase at the time and im hoping we will see him play more. I like Tsimikas, bought as a back up so ok, even though others did not rate him. Minamino, i said already. Konate looks good in pre season, but he hasnt played a prem game , though i feel that time is coming. Matip and Gomez wont last long, and soon we will see what Konate is made of. Only Jota, Thiago and maybe Konate was brought to improve the team. the rest was for squad depth and youth projects. No real No 9 option because we hold out something akin to hope that Origi will be world class… No replacement for Wijnaldum in terms of the number of minutes he has played. Instead this will be doled out to the kids and other players. I dont really have a problem with it, but i dont think that necessarily “improved the team”. We screwed the pooch by not signing a replacement for Lovren. Who honestly was a very big part of the locker room and once Van dijks injury happened you all saw how much we missed him.

Our front 3 now is the thing im most concerned with. Jotas inclusion is holding things together some what, but we still have no answer to the form of Sadio. Its quite concerning , but somehow the approach is , lets wait and see , maybe Sadio will play well at a world class level again…

Anyway, i realise there is no point arguing about this. Cant do anything about transfers at the moment and we should just get behind the team. But please can we not pretend that the other teams are only just reaching our quality.

To be fair, it was against Virgil and Matip. Not many forwards can acquit themselves fairly well against them. Chelsea really just needed a forward who could bully the lesser teams, which is what I remember Lukaku doing, but I may well be wrong.

He always looked a little lost and his pace was awful if I remember.

Guess we will see but if Chelsea are planning on aping that Man Utd system then it’s going come a cropper.

To be fair to him mind Chelsea seemed to have developed a two banks of four.
