I think transfermarkt have made a mistake on their stats there. He got 4 goals and 1 assist in 19/20, not 4 goals and 3 assists. That makes his goal/assist ratio 140.6.
Liverpool need to do one of their glossy new videos for when they announce Salahās contract extension later. All mystery guest type shots with Salah revealed signing his new deal with the narrator saying ālike a new signingā then Salah saying, āno, this is a new signingā as he opens the door revealing a fully kitted out Chiesa/MbappĆ©/Bellingham/Bissoumaā¦
Just trying to better understand your hyperbole. Where can I read such posts you reference. You could have just as easily sourced that in the time it took you to peck out this feeble reply.
I would say Iām not surprised. I find him rather immobile and therefore not the best suited to our play, particularly so when our defensive structure is compromised, and we need him to do that more so than ever. Iāve noticed that he can usually only contribute in attack, or in defence (shockingly, he was the one winning the ball back deep in defence a couple of times in that shitshow). He can run fast, but his acceleration is absolutely terrible.
Like you say, heās also got the strength, but isnāt very good at using it. Thereās often the idea that we should play him as a target man, but he canāt hold up the ball very well.
With these trains considered, itās unsurprising that he wasnāt of much use in a time when we were less effective on the counterattack, among other tactical modifications so we could work around the issues in our defence.
Thatās his general body language though, and this is something thatās been there in all his time at Liverpool. Milner said it best, he often appears as though heās in another world, but heās there and aware. He also did say that Origi forced his way back into the team, despite us being willing to sell him back in 2018.
I would not ordinarily think that, but again, considering how terrible things were for us as a whole last season, I would not judge anyone on that. Furthermore, itās not just AFCON that we need to worry about, but also the Arab Cup. If we donāt suffer injuries like we did last season again, I think he has a more productive role to play. I could be wrong, but I donāt think heās that bad an option to have around. If Kaide Gordon was more ready, then perhaps there is no point in retaining origi, but until then, why not?
Heās played 10 matches for Southampton, and 31 for us.
I find their page rather confusing too, but off the top of my head, I can think of the assist for Salah against Watford for his second, and getting an own goal off a Norwich player in the opening game of the season. Not sure where the 3rd one was.
For what itās worth, the original source I saw this from was not Transfermarkt, and I merely used it to get the actual data, and also because I canāt find the original source.
I expected the same but perhaps Elliotās return and immediate impact has let us rethink our activity this window.
Maybe he is the promising youngster weāve all been expecting and heās enabled us to keep our powder dry. Perhaps he will see mid and fwd minutes so he gets plenty of games this season and we can fast track his development.
All that being said I am a bit nervous about how weāll handle Afcon. I was kinda hoping we would replace Origi with a more stylistically/tactically similar player to our normal front 3. Another Jota type
signing. Iām actually surprised with the money thats been spent by Prem teams we havent sold more players but we all agreed weeks ago players needed to leave so that there where slots in the squad and minutes on the pitch available to new signings. That hasnāt happened and we have mostly been injury free in CM where traditionally Ox and Keita havent been available
so there isnāt really minutes available for a new signing there either.
I think we are being more prudent financially on top of that but really how much would a new signing play anyway. Unless we went big 40+ expenditure itās unlikely whoever we sign would be any more than a rotation option.
Iām not sure what more I can say apart from the fact that so many people are upset that we havenāt signed more players, despite the fact that weāve already filled the major hole that most people thought we had last season.
I wonder if we bought KonatĆ© for Ā£80m instead, would people still be this upset?
Your confusing your opinion with fact.
Others have differing opinions to you and some people are nervous and or disappointed and they are perfectly entitled to voice their concerns. This is a public forum for debate.
If your not concerned great, iām not concerned right now but an injury to Jota around the same time Mane and Mo nick off for Afcon and Iāll be shitting bricks.
Are people upset that we havenāt signed more players or not? I donāt see how this is a fact vs opinion thing?
Weād have Firmino, Minamino, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Origi, and Elliott. Not magical, but they can well do a job for 2 matches.
Are you suggesting that we buy someone who would be 6th choice just for 2 matches?
And, even Messi canāt do that sometimes ā see Chelsea 2012.
(Iām being facetious, but just to underline the point.)
I dont see upset people, i see other members with differing opinions/concerns voicing them. Its a fact people have differing opinions its certainly not a fact that people are upset. I donāt see any members melting down. Which believe me happened on several occasions on the old TIA forum. In fairness the club was a basketcase back then.
Firmino currently injured coming off a poor season, Minamino unproven, Ox injury prone and not really a fwd anyway, Origi very hit and miss and again not really a match for our tactics and Elliott high potential but very young and unproven at this level.
Depending on quarantine requirements it could be well more than 2 games but no Iām not suggesting buying a player for 2 games. Iām suggesting itās not unreasonable given the limitations of the players youāve mentioned to want the club to look to replace a player(s) who arenāt performing or who donāt fit our tactics with a player that does. Itās not just Afcon itās injuries, loss of form, fixture pile up, squad planning.
Itās how the club moves forward and remains competitive.
How much would a PL- or CL-proven player cost and why would they come here to get a couple games in the middle of a hypothetical injury/Afcon crisis?
The kinds of names that have been unreliably linked (e.g., Doku) are no more of a sure bet than Minamino or Elliott ā theyāre just newer.
hahaha actively trolling now.
This really just reinforces my point earlier about transfer gossip. No one knows anything where it comes to Liverpool transfers, not until theyāre done.
For me, my desires about wanting to see a bit more activity in the transfer window is about this more than a concern about having enough depth and quality for this season. However, I think weāve actually made more moves than most people appreciate. When we compare the side we have now to the one that came second 3 seasons ago these are the differences:
In
Konate
Jota
Thiago
Kostas
Elliott
Minamino
Out
Lovren
Gini
Sturridge
Migs
Moreno
Lala
Shaq
It might be viewed as picking around the edges, but in reality gini is the only player to leave who still had an important role in the side at the time of his exit. That is balanced by the addition of 2 players who would arguably start our CL final this season, one more whose absence on saturday is being identified by many as a mistake, and one of the hottest young prospects in europe who is already establishing himself. With Konate waiting in the wings and with Minamino still not a complete write off, this is how you move on a top side and remain competitive.
Letās look back at this in 2022 when we bring in Haaland for 75M and MbappĆ© on a free. I think our forward rotation will look pretty damn tasty.
I couldnāt agree more. The signings other teams are making only bring them a bit closer to the quality of our current squad. Not take them past us.
I guess fans will have a different perspective based on whether they see this as the 19/20 team that won the league by 18pts with the addition of Jota, Thiago and KonatƩ, or the injury-ravaged third placed 20/21 team 17pts behind the winners.
If I didnāt fear a repeat injury crisis so much I would say it mostly resembles an improved 19/20 squad. We just need those midfielders to start ticking. Players like Henderson, Thiago and Ox havenāt but thatās almost certainly through limited game time so far.
It will get better.
I think one of my major concerns about not adding anyone else is that itās clear that Klopp would like to have done just that. Iām sure heāll make the right noises about the quality of lads at his disposal and depth etc but he wanted at least one more and this is a guy well known for not wanting an overstocked squad.
In those circumstances I think he will have been let down. Itās not like he would have been demanding the club spend a shit load of money either, he knows the score, but itās obvious to me that he knew what players the club were looking at, he wanted at least one of them, but it hasnāt happened.
What makes you say he definitely wanted to add an additional player?
