From his perspective he has to move if he wants a top level career for club and country. Will never be 1st choice when we have the worlds best RB ahead of him who’s only a couple of years older
Williams is probably also aware that we still have fantastic talents behind him in the right back position as well. Not only is Bradley likely to challenge him for the “backup” position but we have Isaac Mabaya through who is more talented than both of them. Also we have Quansah who is easily capable of moving to right back and he’s a very talented prospect.
I would imagine in Williams’ mind he just wants to play some regular football, while the club know they have some equally talented - if not better talents - right behind him just waiting to take his place.
What’s the benefit of the loan though. Feels like all the risk is on us should something happen to Trent but what’s the upside for us? Hoping he does well and someone comes in for him with a decent offer in the summer? Surely he’s already got a decent enough body of work to show he’s capable? What are four months in the Championship going to do for anyone?
Better player currently, but Jude has a far higher potential and is quiet a few years younger - so as a long term prospect Jude edges it for me, but I wouldn’t be unhappy with Tielemans in the summer
Tielemans will leave almost for sure, he will have a year left this summer and judging by some of Brendao’s quotes in last weeks, they seem to be resigned over that fact.
Tielemans only makes sense to me if we are cutting our losses and letting Thiago leave. Bellingham is a physical specimen who can do it all. A box to box beast with pace and power is what we need in the summer.
He was overrated then too! Beyond both being lauded as youngsters, Bellingham and Tielemans aren’t comparable though - as players at least.
We haven’t got any need or use for Tielemans. He’s 24, 5’9", he won’t get into our midfield. Bellingham, however, offers something different to our current options and at 18 is a much better age profile to develop and bring through with the likes of Jones and Elliott.
Yes, they’re all overrated after the fact. Ruben Neves and Renato Sanches as well. Sancho and Havertz too. None of us wanted any of them of course!
The value isn’t there with Bellingham, it’s nonsense to think spending 80 million (which is the minimum figure I’ve seen thrown around) is in any way a good idea. It was Camavinga last year who we needed to spend this on. De Ligt was going to be better than Van Dijk at 19.
If he’s still doing it in a couple of years, having ran his contract down a bit, then we should have a look. Until then, no rush. It’s absolutely fine if we ‘miss out’ on him, there are other, better players available.
That’s fair enough. I’ve never been on the Sanches train though but I rated Neves, but he wouldn’t fit here. Sancho I like, Havertz I was all over though. Very surprised at his level of performance in the PL. But then that goes back to the point you’ve been making about the BuLi for years.
Funnily enough, Neves is running his contract down too and is having a really good season with Wolves. I’ve always said we need more athletic options than Neves or Tielemans, but there aren’t many out there. Tchouameni is the obvious one. Bissouma is too but has the police charge hanging over his head. I’m struggling to think of any others who are playing at a good enough level and the likes of Zakaria (off to Juve I know), Kessie and Sanches definitely aren’t it IMO.
With the contract Bellingham is on and the form so far and potential, I will not believe that Dortmund is under any pressure to sell him for anything less than 100m. And even at that kind of price, you will see that few cheating clubs willing to go that high or even higher if he continues his growth trajectory. And because of that, I really do not see us getting involved. There have been so many instances that would tell us that when a talent is so super hyped up to the point where the price is beyond reason and logic, then we are not likely to get involved and for good reason, because as much a talent he looks, to pay more than a 100m for potential that is not guaranteed, the risk is just too much for the appetite of a club like ours.
Tielemans is a good player, not a great one. If he was one of our midfielders, he would be part of the group and not a main man. At that point the price and wages come into it, and I’m sure he would view himself more highly than we would. I doubt very much he would be coming, although on a Bosman he would add depth in a post Milner, Ox, Keita future perhaps?
Even then I’d want a more dynamic midfielder, Bellingham, Tchoumeni… but as everyone is saying, the money would be difficult there.
While I’m posting, part of me wonders if Keita might be of use to Dortmund? Maybe even Origi and Minamino? I know it never works like this, but I would tell all three that yellow looks good on them, and ship them off to Dortmund, with 40M, for Bellingham. Boosts their squad depth, and if Keita rediscovers his previous Bundesliga form, Dortmund would be happy with that.
