I agree with @Mascot, while Joel has been a worthy defender he’s made of glass. constantly injured. I’ve not seen a rash of injuries like this in some time hit this club, maybe the training regime is finally catching up or the players aren’t up to task like they used to? even Millie getting injured shows how difficult this season is.

I can’t honestly see many teams bolstering their squads in this window. The financial impact of the pandemic is still huge.

That is true but as far as I know, our owners are not poor. I understand that because of FFP you can not do what you want but I also understood that there is come extra lean way from the UEFA due to COVID, the question is if true, will FSG allow us to spend that money to bring in that much-needed centre half?

I think the issue will be more to do with the requisite quality player being available, than a lack of funds. Jurgen has a lot of credit in the bank with winning the league and CL. If he petitions the owners to find the money, given the importance of adding a quality defender to our season, I’m sure they will find a way to fund it.
It doesn’t mean we have a bottomless pit, and it will be money that we either have available due to FFP margin, OR it will be some sort of loan from the owners, borrowing against future budget, assuming we have identified a player and can do a deal now.
If we don’t sign a central defender in Jan, my take will be because the right player isn’t available.

The issue though remains that it’s looking unlikely that fans will be allowed back in stadiums in significant numbers this season. The original projection was October.
The pandemic has been a kick in the teeth for football clubs, and while the revenues of Premier League clubs might be high, their cash flow isn’t.
I heard the Anfield Wrap’s gutter show suggesting Upameccano could be had for a mere £40m. I’m sure that’s true, but where is the money coming from?
We really could do with a centre back in January, and I hope we do what we can to get one in. I’m braced for the fact that we might need to be understanding and patient, because I am really worried the money just isn’t there.

I think most likely will be a loan of a high wage player on another club’s books who, for whatever reason, isn’t getting games. Someone like Issa Diop.
I think they would if the right one is found and a deal with their current club can be done.

Could Gini’s problem be that he wants a more attacking role? He bangs them in left and right for his country and might want that type of glory domestically? I can’t think of any other reason he would consider Wolves over us?
