The Unreliable Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 2)

looking forward to reading about the nuanced differences between French and British sport physiology.

Physical effects maybe, maybe not but the mental effects absolutely can.

Burn out can suck the life out of you and carry on for months and I can vouch for that personally. I had to leave a job in a critically understaffed business where my boss refused to hire more staff and its took me ages to get my energy levels back up and that was even with taking a full month off before starting a new job.

I think some players are spent and need eithier a long break or a complete change, some are just shattered.

Robertson is a good case, generally still think he is doing a 7/8 out ten most weeks with an occasional 6 but he was completely off the boil earlier in the season and at times last until he had a few sizeable breaks.

I think Henderson might be another, I donā€™t think he is particularly gone but he does need perhaps to retreat to how Milner was at his age, once a week and no more. (Standing down from international duty would be wise especially if he expects Liverpool to come again).

Fabinho and Matip seriously concern me, the former really seriously. I love them as players and everything theyā€™ve done but there isnā€™t even a spark in them.

Or Alexander-Arnoldā€™s holiday in Qatar helping him recover some form after he came back?

Always takes links to any Everton player with a pinch of salt, but here is a bit of insider knowledge on Branthwaite if people arenā€™t familiar with him

Heā€™s my record signing on my current FIFA career mode with Carlisle United. I spent Ā£24m on him. 12 months later, Munich offered over Ā£50m for him.

As we all know, FIFA is almost just like real life, so I hope this is reassuring for you all :+1:t3:

Hes legitimately really good. I donā€™t understand why he isnā€™t playing in their first team.

As in, heā€™ll be fucking off to any other club at the first whiff of interest?

Seems a smart lad I say.

Wonder if heā€™s refusing a new contract? It expires in the summer. Heā€™s a beast! 6 foot 5

His Everton contract is up to 2025, highly doubt they would loan him out if his contract would be in the final year!

3 weeks in Dubai drinking cocktails with supermodels might have speeded that up a little. Then a gentle USA tour with the odd bit of training and games against kids. Re-charge anybodyā€™s batteries.

Doesnā€™t really need that, I do remember when I took Voluntary redundancy after my last I took a rest over Christmas no rush to return and within 1 month and a bit I was flowing with ideas again.

Itā€™s kind of why if we had the luxury Iā€™d certainly offer it to one or two.

That is fair too simplistic a view.

The amount of mental focus it would take to acheive the levelā€™s this team has acheived over the last 5-6 years would be fucking exhusting and ā€œ3 weeks in Dubai drinking coctailsā€ might help for 1 or 2 seasons, but the longer that level of demand is required that longer it would take for the players to recover, then you add in the kicker that is missing out on winning the quadruple by 1 point, then losing the C/L final would just add to the already heavy mental drain.

The serious point in all this is that whatever you do in life, you have to find ways to replenish, refill and refresh, or else you will be in danger of burnout, and when that happens your performance level drops precipitously. (The issues go wider than the workplace at that point).

In years gone by more fans were quicker to say stuff like, ā€œWith their money, I could easily train a bit each day, and play a game or two a week. No problem!ā€

But nowadays we are more pastoral, even with the money the players receive. That does not prevent burnout.

Leaders in the game like Klopp have been saying for years that the players play too many games. The whole football eco system is in serious need of reform, as there are too many vested interests, all making money, and the players are the ones who have to deliver, and at some point you simply donā€™t have the physical or psychological resources to do so. Not at your former level.

So you need to recharge, and whatever that looks like, at the least, it needs time.

I remember years ago seeing a picture of Lucas Leiva in the off season, back on his ranch in Brazil, riding a horse and looking like a cowboy. I loved it! He wasnā€™t going for the cliched footballer route of beach and drinking. He was getting in touch with the life he came from, doing something still physical, but completely different to his life at Liverpool, and as such Iā€™m sure it recharged his batteries.

Liverpool is reportedly showing strong interest in Eintracht Frankfurtā€™s Daichi Kamada :jp:. Market value around 30-million euros and his contract w/ Frankfurt runs through June of this year.

13 goals and 5 assists this season from all comps.

He could make stylistically some sense if we were not about to keep Firmino.

Ha, initial thought is ā€œAn attacking midfielder? Not a forward and not a midfielder? Cool. We need one of thoseā€ :upside_down_face:

Sure weā€™ve got a strategy for it though

If not Kamada, then go to Chelsea and pinch one of Havertz/Felix.
