They would be too thin in CM if they sell Kovacic this summer. But of course, itās not impossible that they keep spendingā¦
Right now, they have Fernandez, Kovacic, Kante who is out for a while now and contract running out, Zakaria is only on loan and probably wonāt be bought, Mount is not a midfielder, then they have Loftus-Cheek, Chukwuemeka (another very offensive minded) and young Santos.
Selling Kovacic doesnāt seem like the smartest move for them this summer but if they are selling him, I donāt see them willing to sell him to us.
A potential manager change could also flip the situation.
Years ago I thought Loftus Cheek was a smashing player, and would go on to have an excellent career.
To date he hasnāt quite kicked on to the level I thought he would hit, but at the same time, he has also been caught up in the crowd that is the Chelsea squad. Chelsea have also had loads of money to spend, and a revolving door on the managers office, so there are decent reasons why it might not have quite worked out for a player.
Anyway, Iām not entirely sure how good he is, but I would be ok with a Loftus Cheek punt, if we are making deep changes in the engine room.
Two others ahead of him though, who would be more of a sure thing.
He is probably more valuable to them as a club trained player than he is to anyone else. Im not sure he is good enough to hold down a regular spot at a club at this level, but he rarely lets them down when he plays. Given Chelsea would be unlikely to be able to replace him in the UEFA squad given his CT status, that is a profile that likely has a lot of value to them
I honestly dont know if heāll have the same gaps in his game that Werner has and look similarly lost in a side that has as much of the ball as they will have, but Osimhen is the obvious one for them to go after.
Liverpool may be willing to sell āsuperstarā players, including Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, 30, this summer. (Football Insider)
Contact has been made between Real Madrid and German Jurgen Klopp, 55, over the Liverpool manager replacing their Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, 63, this summer. (El Nacional - in Catalan)
Liverpool would accept an offer of around Ā£15m for 31-year-old German-born Cameroon defender Joel Matip. (Football Insider)
Story one: the word āmayā is a get-out clause,
Story two: yeah, right.
Story three: Every player has a price, and any idiot can guess what it might be.
Coming into the final year of his contract and 28, he might not actually be a bad shout.
Injury record is not as bad as I first thought, 3 injuries this season leading to 5 games in total being missed.
Excluding 2021, when he did seem to miss chunks of games, although 1 of those was corona so not really something you can use to label him as injury prone he has rarely missed more than a couple of games
If it were down to me, I think a bid of Ā£20-Ā£25M and he could be a good buy for a few seasons - providing his wage demands arenāt excessive
With Naby and Ox leaving almost definitely, if we assume that Kovacic and a player like Kamada are to replace them, not the worst replacements in terms of level and squad involvement. That would leave us with most of our transfer money whatever we have to commit to the first team starters. So if we sign just one sure starter, then for the rest to have Hendo, Kovacic, Fabinho, Thiago, Bacjetic and Kamada are pretty good options. Of course if we sell Fabinho, then we will need another high level replacement.
