If as Ornstein claims we are not likely to get anyone in then Hughes is really hanging Slot (and the club) out to dry with this constant failure to get a defender.
That is kind of you But It’s long ago and I don’t think about it and it rarely affects my daily life (although getting good at yoga doesn’t work for me, as I can’t really stretch my right leg enough )
It was a shitty New Years Eve though ! I was very lucky though.
Just as you know, I would be on a Free and only require wages. On the cheap too ! 20k a week tops. I am willing to even consider 10K or maybe lower !!!
I don’t think they have, there has clearly been work going on in the background on a number of targets albeit with differing timeframes (we’ve done deals for I think 3 youngsters, we’re in the hunt for Jacquet for a summer arrival) and we’re now seeing stories of Geertruida There is probably other conversations that have been had with other players that we’re not aware of.
Strange. The first reports seemed to imply that Sunderland had already given their blessing. Funny to see this leaked to Ornstein without even that sorted.
I agreed with you then. But Frimpong’s 3rd or 4th hamstring injury this season turns an already terrible situation into pure negligence.
Frimpong should not be rushed back. It’s the matter of a young man’s career vs the needs of the club. And this sort of decision should be straight forward and not in the hands of a manager who might also be fighting for his career.
The manager is really being done an injustice here. As are the players who are on the pitch who are not being backed by the actions off it. We need reinforcements now whether they be loans, etc. this window.
Nah, now teams have an extensive database, a wider range of scouts and scouting techniques, player profiles and video analysis and not just highlights.
There are far more tools to assess players today.
Also here’s a story from Harry Redknapp and how it used to be and where he’d seen this player play once,
Harry Redknapp: “I bought Carl Richards for £10,000, went to pick him up from Enfield and while he went in to say goodbye to his manager, he left me with his mate.”
“‘What are you signing him for?’ said this kid. ‘I’m 10 times better than him. I’ve got 26 goals this season, he’s only got 12. I’m different class than him. Why don’t you sign me?”
“I was worried. ‘I can’t buy you, I’m buying him,’ I told Carl’s mate, ‘but I’ll keep an eye out for you, don’t worry.”
“So we took Carl and he was absolutely useless. He could run, but that was about it. We played about six games, but couldn’t win one. Carl was terrible.”
“After about four games of this, he came to see me. ‘I’ve got a mate,’ he said. ‘He was asking if he could have a trial. He’s a striker, like me.’
“‘And is he as good as you, Carl?’ I asked, suspiciously. ‘No, he’s not as good as me,’ he said, ‘but he’s decent.’
“‘Well, tell him not to f***ing bother then,’ I snapped, and that was the end of it.”
“The following Saturday, we went to play Crystal Palace. ‘My mate, the one who wanted a trial, he’s playing for Palace today,’ said Carl. ‘Oh good,’ I thought. ‘No problem there then.”
“Anyway, three goals later I realized Carl wasn’t much of a scout, either. His mate’s name? Ian Wright, who went on to score 238 league goals.”
