The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

It is probably the best rumour we can hope to tempt going into next transfer window. A player that doesn’t always start in PSG’s forward lineup.

However, he plays in all the positions across the 4-3-3 setup. If he comes to us, then someone needs to confirm with him that he’s ok directly replacing Salah and goes on RW for the good of all the players in our current squad.

Yep Barcola is probably as good as we could hope for.

Established and experienced but maybe wants out for more playing time. Quick and can score and pass. There are more tricky wide players but he´d be a threat for us.

Better on the left than the right but to be honest I think both our flanks should be upgraded on.

We’re up against some stiff competition for Barcola, except for Barcelona who probably couldn’t afford to pay his airfare from Paris.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are all keen on 23-year-old Paris St-Germain and France winger Bradley Barcola. (Mundo Deportivo - in Spanish)

As for those who have been touting Joao Gomes’ name as a possible target, you’re out of luck so it seems.

Atletico Madrid are close to agreeing a deal for Wolves Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes, 25, worth about £39m. (Givemesport)

Regarding Haaland, had we bought him at the same time when we bought Minamino in winter 2019, we would have only had to pay an additional €20m, I mean, €20m was the amount Dortmund paid to buy him. Even if he failed that would have been a totally acceptable gamble. However, he is someone who obviously would eventually become a top player even back in 2019-2020, kinda similar to 16/17-year-old Nadal or 18-year-old Alcaraz in tennis.

Regarding Rice, we should have gone all in to secure him in summer 2022 - at the end of 2021/2022 season. Rice would have helped us secure a CL spot that season. Remember that the 2022/2023 season was when our midfield collapsed with Hendo & Fab started losing their legs and Thiago started getting injured permanently - things became so bad that Klopp had to rush a 17-year-old boy into the first team. Rice’s presence would have stabilized our midfield and made a huge difference - for example, better group stage performance would have landed us in the Italian draw (facing Milan and Inter), avoiding Real and City. Winning a CL spot would have secured better transfer targets for us in summer 2023, for example Kvaratskhelia.

Kvarats would have kicked Gakpo to the bench had he come in January 2025. And we would very likely have won CL last season with him playing for us.

Going back further, IMO the biggest loss was Bale, as we had a chance to sign him as a youth player.

And the idea of Ekitike - a CF - playing on the left is so dumbass. If you want to play from the wings, buy a proper wide player, that’s it. That narrative is just there to justify buying Isak.

The issue was he didn’t want to come to us and deliberately saw Dortmund as a better stepping stone.

The issue is that we never actually tried.

Yeah our scouts looked at him and Taki and said, “yeah just get the little guy”. :joy:

I thought it was the players who identified him?

He plays there for France!

I’d like to see us trying to get Trent back to Anfield as Real’s dressing room devolves into open chaos.

How do you know that? And if you are Haaland, a smart guy with good advice from his dad would choose a team that has the best trio in the world, in their prime front of him, or some team that guarantees 50 games a season and also guarantees a release clause.

The only reason we bought Minamino was because of his £7m release clause. It’s just a cheap backup option. Sometimes I believe you are just the admin’s clone account trying to create some noise during that boring period.

It was pretty much this - a move to Dortmund, some development time and then a big move

If he was open to coming to us, we would have done the deal..

Yeah dortmund was not only a level below what he could have done even at that stage of his career, he left a good amount of money on the table compared to what Dortmund would have paid him in exchange for get out clauses in his contract to allow him to keep control of his career.

Yeah, Haaland broke the internet back then with 8 goals in just 6 UCL games. Acting like he was some hidden gem is utterly stupid.

And I think we already have enough star boys. This team critically needs hardworking team players.

It was even earlier than that. Didn’t he score 9 in one game for Norway U19s?

I don’t remember that. But I remember that many hoped Haaland and Mbappe could be the new Ronaldo-Messi rivalry.

If I was Barcola or any other player worth his salt, I wouldn’t come anywhere near us. It would be potential career suicide right now.

Let’s see if they dump Slot first.

We could have easily sold him a solid project, as we were definitely the best team in the world at that moment. In fact we did not really have a deep bench behind the front three at that time. Jota hadn’t arrived yet.

It feels like a basketball coach coming across a young Michael Jordan and deciding to skip him.

I think had he joined us he would have broken into our starting 11 from around January-March 2021 when we desperately needed new solutions to break low blocks.
