Just about the biggest mitigation I have for Slot is his attacking options. It hasn’t been good enough and he has, for most of the season, been left painfully short in attack - predominantly in the wide areas. Some of that was unforeseeable, but a lot was through choice. The choice to ‘leave a path clear’ for a kid who isn’t ready. The choice to bet the farm on a striker who had no pre-season and turned up months away from match fitness. The choice to not replace Diaz.
Isn’t he? He was regularly the best player on the pitch at the end of the season.
Nah, highly doubt it. And Alvarez would possibly look at a more “secure” project than ours looks at the moment with so many question marks on and off the pitch.
Ekitike’s injury as an argument to go for another huge forward move like Alvarez would be is nowhere near enough strong to do it.
I have no idea what we’ll do with the group that will be here next season, let alone if we add more players in the same zone.
The squad is imbalanced and needs clarity (and of course, not only clarity, but it would be one of the starting points).
Igor Thiago is a monster I didn’t realise how good a team player he is. It would make up for the loss of Salah goals.
I still don’t think he’s ready. He doesn’t offer enough when we don’t have the ball, He also needs to work on his decision making. He hasn’t made THAT big of a difference to results despite being the biggest threat.
The attacking options weren’t good enough indeed, but Slot must take responsibility for these choices, as he surely must have been part of the discussions around transfers. Even if Hughes’ role in this fiasco must not be forgotten, I won’t let Slot off the hook that easily.
Apart from that we’re all good?
Plus he famously took credit for convincing Wirtz to come to Anfield and then has no effective plan of how to use him.
I think he does have a plan as to how to use him, the problem sits more with his plan for everything else and the rest of the team’s abilities to make that work
Me too. Complete with that statistical ‘analysis’ that claimed as most goals are the result of 5 or fewer passes, getting it in the mixer early doors must be the way to score more goals.
Well the reason for him signing for us was that Slot persuaded him that he had a specific plan of how and where he would play him. His plan went down the toilet when the players we bought to support that plan were falling to long term injuries and my guess he had no plan B by using the players that won him the league unfortunately for and us he had got rid of quite a few of them.
I know I’m like a stuck record, but he is the head coach, not the manager. I know he will have been an important voice in the room, but I don’t think he is driving the overall transfer strategy.
There have been rumours that he was against selling Diaz, for example.

Slot never gave the feeling that he was unhappy about the sales and the incomings when it happened. He must have had a hand in it. Of course, as you say, as a part of the trio. Still, I’d be curious to know how much influence he had on the way the club went after Isak for instance, and how the need to replace Diaz was neglected. It was a disgrace, that’s for sure.
Apparently we are about to sign a 16 year old centre back from Celtic, Dara Jikiemi.
It’s going to be interesting to see who we sign, and of course, we are waiting on confirmation about Slot, one way or the other.
I see a defensive midfielder, Camara or Sangare.
We have allowed team to waltz through us way too much. That has to stop.
I see a homegrown ball playing midfielder, Wharton.
Possibly MacAllister might make way, and if so, I’m fine with that. He can have a good World Cup and there will be suitors.
I see a winger to replace Salah. I’m driving the Diomande bus, but the price is too much for the body of work. What are you going to do? Swerve it if he’s the one?
I see another winger/versatile forward, given question marks up front - Ekitike out, plus Isak’s fitness not the most robust. Barcola would be great. We might go cheaper, hard to say what the budget will be.
If Konate departs I think we need another central defender. Leoni and Jacquet might boss it, but I’d rather have more security at the back while they have some time to make their mark.
We might also need a right back to go to the top of the class, given questions marks over the position. The Brentford lad is a great shout, but it will cost us.
Could easily be 6 signings, and a number of departures too.
I hope anew man leads he charge. Let’s see.
I’ve got a feeling it is going to be a long summer… Just read an article that LFC are going back in for Gordon from Sandcastle
:0(
I thought Bayern had bought him?

Liverpool plot £75m Gordon swoop as Reds decide on three-name Salah successor shortlist
Liverpool retain a strong interest in Anthony Gordon as they continue advancing plans to replace Mohamed Salah this summer, TEAMtalk can reveal, with the England star one of three leading winger targets for the Reds.
The Reds are actively assessing a number of elite attacking options following Salah’s final appearance for the club last weekend, and sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Gordon remains firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
Probably nothing in that as it’s from Teamtalk. I think the regular journalists have downplayed our interest now given it would involve talking with Newcastle and the fee they are reportedly demanding.
I’m actually okay if we get Diomande and Gordon. But not Gordon alone
