I said in a match thread it was pretty clear that if there was real interest in keeping him, the deal would likely already be done. He is likely looking for the numbers that were flying around when Real Madrid was interested, but that was a tough season with a lot of mistakes ago.
I know our fans are very concerned about losing players and being theoretically behind where we are now but a lot of them have shown they“re not up to it. Honestly most of them at this stage are not crucial to our success. Doing nothing and keeping them is also risky.
It“s an opportunity to get some money in and put it towards building a squad that is full of players that are up to it and our next dynasty.
Where only getting back his current wages.
The signing of Jacket should have been a wake up call if he was holding out for more money.
I always knew he was going to go but what annoyed me was that when the RM interest dried up he gave a lot less commitment on the pitch. The wake up call will be in the WC when he will be playing second fiddle to Saliba and Upamecano.
He is actually going to be in an interesting situation during the World Cup - his LFC offer may not have met expectations, but how many clubs are there out there that will match it? Will he want to play and risk injury while not having a contract?
Does beg the question whether Real Madrid or someone else came back in for him and it didnt make the news yet?
Not just Konate, but whoever we sell too.
Not up to what exactly? All the players leaving were significant players when we won the Premier League one year ago.
They had good seaosns but were not our best players. Salah carried the attack and we had Trent doing the creative work that the midfield should be doing, plus Virgil nearer his best. Without that you see their real level.
Not to mention Diaz and Diogo.
So we shouldnāt be concerned about the players leaving because they were carried by our stars - then you named 5 players and 4 of them are gone.
Yes because whether they stay or go, we massively need new very good players.
Without those, we“re essentially fucked either way, quite frankly. So why worry if the fillers leave?
Our near future primarily depends on whether we bring in those players (and fire Slot), not whether Konate or Gakpo are still here.
I feel that Konate witnessed how Trent was treated by the fans, after Trent came out early, regarding his decision to move to RM, and Konate didnāt want to deal with that. I feel that he strung out the possibility of resigning, to avoid that, even to the point that there was a rumor that Konate was about to put pen to paper, on a new deal.
Sadly I think Konate became more of a liability towards the end than a top class contributor. I guess we will see what happens.
Fuck me someone knows how we play.

More 2/10 this season!
Now that heās on a free Konate will likely get the money he wants. Heās a decent but not elite defender, but someone will give him good money and a nice signing bonus.
On our end Iām glad we stuck to our guns and didnāt overpay on his wages. Itās not hard to see Leoni and Jacquet going past Konate soon, and they would want similar money to the fella they are keeping out of the team. We would have made a massive rod for our own backs.
Overall itās a pain as it is more business to do, but Iām not especially sad over it.
There are some levels between decent and elite though.

I agree Konate is not elite, but heās comfortably better than just ādecentā.
I think its fair to say that Konate has shown his ceiling is very high and has shown great performances for us. His problem was never about his abilities, its about consistency. It will be unfortunate if he leaves because even if he is not going to be automatic starter, he will push anyone wanting that spot very hard and that will be good for the team overall.
I wll miss Ibou the person more than the footballer just a big cuddly giant with a happy persona.
