He’s had top periods at Real, in one game at Anfield he was phenomenal. It was when Tchouameni would be more under threat. A lot of athleticism in their midfield options, but they haven’t really replaced Kroos and Modric. Kroos more so.
I don’t think it makes much difference really. We all knew Trent was off but there was nothing officially signed.
I can imagine some clubs would rather wait until as late as possible. Not as if you want to make a huge commitment 6 months in advance and then be on the hook should the player do his ACL in the final game of the season.
Yeah but is Guehi sure he still wants to join Liverpool whatever happens this season and no matter of other interest as much as Trent wanted Real, that’s the thing.
Will nobody think of @jaffod?
I have so many questions.
Does the half space move or is it always in the same place?
At what point does a player move from ‘space’ into a 'half-space? Does he even know he’s in a smaller space?
IS there an even smaller space?
I need to know.
It’s a nonsense term when used in English, but it is a fairly literal translation of a German term that I guess makes more sense in German. In English we’ve long just referred to it as the inside channel and it doesn’t really need to borrow a German phrase to describe it, but this is the era we’re in. It’s great that the average fan cares a bit more about tactics than in the past (2 up top, get the ball forward, little eye brows, jumpers for goal posts), but it definitely creates some needless confusions in discussions.
Has it become more popular in England because of Jurgen using the term - I’m not sure if I remember it being used so much before he arrived?
Hmmm…the channel…small boats…Starmer…I’m more confused than ever..
Yeah that is possible it, but also a reflection that a lot of the tactical advancement we’ve seen over the past 20 years has a german basis to it as well and so tacticos are borrowing those literally translated german phrases when speaking about elements of those game plans.
For the mockery the role of Regista and Trequartisa get by some I think the terms are valuable because they succinctly describe something it would otherwise take a lot more words to describe… -
“why do you want Adam Wharton when you already have a DM like Mascherano?”
“I just think our team needs more of a Regista than a ball winner who doesnt know what to do with it when he wins it”
But half space is a term that just doesnt need to be used when we’ve got a well known and very well used actual english term we already used to describe the exact same thing. It feels a bit like that friend who was just returned from a holiday in Italy and now adds an annoying accent when saying the word capuccino
Keir in the half space? Are you mad, he is clearly more of a Inverted FB, a false 2 if you will
All I do know is you need a smaller player for the half space ![]()
It starts getting tight in there.
For many years, yes, we’ve just said ‘inside’ e.g. an inside forward wouldn’t have chalk on his boots from being wide, nor would he play through the middle. He’s be in the space between, somewhere half way perhaps? Not sure what our German friends would call that ![]()
little eye brows
Never heard that one before
It’s an old Ron Atkinsonism to refer to a near post flick on.
Fairly inoffensive for him… ![]()
Not shown in this video - Pep asking Delap to do better at getting the ball in the half spaces
Isn’t the most important that people understand each other? I think the vast majority do.
Liverpool being a global club with fans from all over the world, different native languages.
Half-space, inside right/left, not really a winger and not really a striker… who really cares? Is analysing origin of the term half-space more needless than using it?
Or being exploited in that space, my biggest bug bear defensively ![]()
Me too! just when I thought I was getting my head around it. ![]()
Maybe its better to stick with the original terminology though. It was always the area occupied by inside forwards. Its a bit akin to the use of quarterback, my bug bear. There is no such position in football, yet people want to use it.
The need for changing language and description is really puzzling
Come on, back on track…what’s the latest unreliable transfer rumours? ![]()
