The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

We should increase our bid price for Guehi to 30+ mil to speed up the deal. Should not make the same mistake that we made in the last summer transfer season. And buy another CB on top of Guehi.

We need at least one central defender asap, and if that happens, I think a second will be signed in summer. Ideally a winger too, since it looks like things are going south with Salah.

I don’t think replacing Salah should be a high priority just yet. I think we need to move away from this 4-3-3 system given the players at our disposal. It hasn’t worked all season and we are the most predictable team in the league.
Any money available should be spent on the defence and midfield.

Fair comment. The signings we made in summer made me think we were going to move away from out and out wingers, but we have played with wingers more often than not, all season.

So… if we want to continue to play with wingers, we need to invest there. If we don’t, then let’s commit and invest accordingly.

I can get on board with a robust, defensive minded midfielder to help us gain solidity, plus investment in central defence.

Look, it is not too late to go back to Klopp-era system with fast wingers. Most of our core players were brought here under Klopp, and a few new players can still be integrated if we go back to the high-tempo, high-pace pressing game that made us great.

But, tearing down the entire system will cause immense damage beyond the first team. Let’s not forget that our entire youth system is built for Klopp’s game over the past 10 years. Switching to an entirely new one will turn our young players into waste, notably Rio Ngumoha, who is a real talent but will no longer be fit in a 2 CFs system.

This team desperately needs a ball playing CB, a pacey winger that puts fear into defenders and a DM that can both shield the defence and pick out a forward pass.

Rodgers all over again.

We’re not playing 4-3-3, apart from the odd game or period in games here and there.

Call it whatever you like, I’m talking about the Gakpo/Salah nonsense we’ve watched all season, the obsession to get it out wide for one of them to either put it over the bar or waft a shite ball in to nobody.

To create a consistent, and hard to beat team, you need to focus on defense the spine, and heart. Jurgen focused on heart, and defense, early on (first with pressing, then with personnel). Look at how many 1 - 0 games Liverpool won, when Jurgen lead us to the CL title and then PL title. Hindsight is an easy crutch, but we should have been focusing on a tough DM, and CM, this past summer, but instead bought luxury players. For example, instead of Isak, we should have used that money, time and influence on pulling in Guimarães.

There are similarities and differences between Klopp’s and Slot’s principles.

Even under Klopp, we tried to evolve and add layers (especially in possession). We were not the same team as in 2015 or 2016. A lot of it is down to player quality, which improved, but not only that.

And as for the youth system, it doesn’t really work like that black or white. I believe we are aligned enough so that the best talent finds it’s way, regardless if the first team plays with wide forwards more on the inside or wider wingers.

Ngumoha is a winger, he shouldn’t worry if we play with 1 or 2 strikers, if the midfield structure is a 2-1 or 1-2. Just focus on learning and improving.

You can have 3 different midfielders and still be shite defensively if we’re not compact, not pressing well from the front and our defensive transition is not on point.

Things are not fixed only by changing players and formations. Sure, individual quality and style helps, but we have real collective issues in different phases of the game.

At least with Mo’s wafted crosses there is a big lad to aim for, Gakpo although this season he has a head like Sheriffs badge. However, when Cody does it he is aiming for Mo, who hasn’t headed a ball since his hair transplant!

Huh? Shiny? Metallic? Law enforcing?

Has lots of pointy bits, meaning when you head it you have no idea where its going.

Regular comment from my neck of the woods for shit headers of the ball.

Can identify with that

Problem is Salah isn’t even wafting crosses in, it’s usually the first man and he tackles him.

I grew up saying he’s got a head like a ten bob bit. Same sort of meaning. 50p coin. All those edges. The header could go anywhere.
