Nah, I don’t think so.
Semenyo’s private coach (or one of):
Not sure if the player would be alright with this, but I guess the guy’s got the green light. Not that he’s saying anything transfer related.
With Antoine Semenyo preferring a move to Manchester City, Liverpool have turned their interest to 23-year-old Paris St-Germain and France winger Bradley Barcola. (CaughtOffside)
Also, Barca have no money. Who knew?
Barcelona have met with the agents of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but have cooled their interest in signing the 25-year-old England international, who will be out of contract in the summer, because of the finances involved. (Mundo Deportivo - in Spanish)
Technically City without the agreement of the Football League can only be relegated one division.
Not really, I just think it’s daft to suggest he wouldn’t want to sign for us because a single fan racially abused him and was subsequently dealt with so swiftly that Semenyo himself publicly thanked the club for its actions.
I wouldn’t describe it as daft. Bad experiences do linger in a subconscious and while it wouldn’t affect a rational decision… many decisions are not.
All things equal (for the player), I think it could be a swaying factor. But probably not much of one.
Just wait until next time he comes to Anfield in a Man City shirt. Then he’ll find out what abuse is.
Not racial, of course.
Seemingly, the reports are that we opted not to persue a transfer abouta month ago, rather than him turning us down.
Whether that is because of wage demands, priorities, or simply that he isn’t seen as a good fit is anyone’s guess.
Absolutely the only priority in the window as we have not had much luck with injuries in that area.
You can say the same with his choice of Shitty.
If our priority attacking targets are not reachable this window, then rather than searching for backup choices that might not fit our long term vision, I’d pivot the other way. Let’s target CBs and a 6. Solidify the spine. Elliott Anderson is not long for Forest. Go get him now.
would be ironic if he refused to come to us becausee of a fan racially abusing him, to then sign for Abu Dhabi…
Seriously if a player at this level can’t put up with being ribbed by one fan, does he have a top level mentality.
.
If he comes to LFC, he will be in the league of Milan’s/Juve/Man City/Man U/RM/Etc, all teams who love everyone of our players. Our squabbles with big clubs are next level. Stay where you are mate.
“Ribbed” the guy was racially abused by a cunt who I hope never sets foot near our or anyone else’s ground.
We are discussing a somewhat hypothetical situation as gospel. Especially as it seems we dropped our interest in November and even if not sometimes players just prefer other teams.
If we are saying to a guy who was racially abused by one of our fans and we tell him to grow a pair and sign for us because we are Liverpool after all, then I think that’s the problem when it comes to racism in a sporting environment. How many fans before it becomes a problem?
I understand the angle you are coming from. That a top level player shouldn’t really judge a club and it’s fans from one isolated incident but we cannot really tell how it affected him. Some of us might go travelling in a city and experience one negative incident and would hardly want to go back there again.
So well, I hope if he is the right one and he rejects us, it’s not because of this because I have visited Liverpool a number of times and it’s a wonderful city with great people. My fondest recent memory was having a banter with the locals at a fish and chips shop after last year’s derby. Mix of fans on both sides and me the only Asian there just ribbing each other.
This is a really bizarre conversation to be having.
We might have decided against pursuing him. He might have decided he’d rather go somewhere else.
But I seriously doubt an incident involving one fan that was swiftly dealt with and earned the club praise from Semenyo himself has anything to do with it.
Also discussions of Trey going out on loan…
Ivan Toney and Dušan Vlahović are admired as elite-level forwards, though both are viewed more as long-term solutions rather than quick January fixes.
What? ![]()
That is so random that it doesn’t merit even the unreliable thread.
To be fair it doesn’t say by who ![]()
