Spot on mate they are in it to screw us over and if we pull out of the idea to get Semenyo I am absolutely certain Shitty will play hard ball with Bournemouth with payment terms knowing we are out of the way. They don’t need him and we do but we also are still there to stop Shitty haggling to the point of them giving up on the whole deal. I would rather we go for Barcola or Akliouche after Semenyo choosing shitty over us.

Whatever evaluation they made about our needs in the summer, it would surely be malpractice to not go and get that CB now. We’ve lost Leoni and our worst case scenario that saw us refuse to use Gomez unless absolutely required turned into a reality. We’ve got 2 CB lefts, and one of those is 34 while the other, at best, needs a kick up the backside of a new CB arriving to challenge him.

No, that was pre-Wolves.
It covers the Leeds game if he gets booked against them he misses Fulham. If he doesn’t get booked he can needs to get to 10 bookings by end of 32nd game.

Just a quick google check: the entire squad was rotated for the 10/09/25 game.
And the “not in squad games” was due to injury according to the JFA so I’m not sure how to read the other data.
So much for us getting Semenyo. Sky Sports is reporting Citeh are close to finalising the deal.
Some less reliable reports in Italy are linking us with Yildiz and a loan back to Juventus for Chiesa. Maybe it’s something that would happen next summer anyway, especially Chiesa going back to Italy.

To be honest, as much as I would have liked us to sign Semenyo, I’m not really that surprised. This may be a case of the club having identified ‘better’ players and trying to bring them in now or in the summer while also targeting players the squad needs more urgently (i.e CB?).
Moving Diaz on last summer suggested the club had a plan with the players we currently have and at the time we probably had stronger rumours of interest around Rogers and one of the guys at PSG (was it Barcola, who I think we have been again linked to in recent weeks?) than we did with Semenyo who looked to be available.

Barcola was one of our possible alternatives if we didn’t get one of our targets last summer. Whether he’d be worth it for surely an important fee is another discussion…

For the money I saw being mentioned, I think maybe it was 30M, Karim Adeyemi seems like he could be a steal. Still only 23 I believe, fast as you like.

I think it might be a case of ‘do your best with what you have’, hope to scrape a top 4/5 finish and reassess in the summer, as we aren’t winning anything anyway. And we’re not as attractive as a few months ago.
