A laptop Eddie classic.
Bugger, wake up see 91 comments after my Adam Cleary video post on Guehi and think we must have got our man.
Thought he suited us well, but City tore up the transfer rule book and blew us out of the water with what it seems they are willing to spend on the total package and on a player with 6 months left on his contract.
Setting our stall out regarding overpaying is fine by me, but I thought we needed another CB last summer and splurging $125m on Isak was over indulgent IMHO, especially with his injury record, not withstanding the current injury as you canât legislate for that kind of tackle.
I do, like others, presume we have bigger fish to fry that we deem as a better choice, but again like many I feel our need for another CB is now to cement our top 4 push.
People asking âwhy didnât we spend the ÂŁ20m to get himâ are probably forgetting about the signing on fee and wages that are probably double what we were prepared to offer. Never mind all the other dodgy brown envelopes being exchanged behind the scenes
That is the bigger question. My suspicion is that their interest in Guehi waned as they realized that the league had pivoted towards set pieces and direct play, and that has motivated them to look for someone bigger and stronger and taller than Guehi. But that doesnât excuse their apparent disinterest in pursuing someone this winter.
I know that the club prefers to act quietly to secure their preferred targets. Perhaps they already have several moves lined up for the summer and will strike early. I just think that they have a need right now.
Yeah. We dont know the details yet but itâs worth pointing back to their signing of Halaand. That was a deal on which we dropped out of contention early because it was just too expensive, yet Cityâs fee to Dortmund was only about 50m, about 30m less than weâd pay to Benfica for Darwin. That fee represents only a portion of the financial commitment the club is making to sign a player.
Glasner to city in the summer???
As i said earlierâŠ300kpw is doing the rounds.
I cant see pep leavingâŠ
Well, I hope Glasner does get United, it would serve him right, the prick. ![]()
Would give us all the more reason to stuff them. Not that we need any more.
A long term injury to Virgil and we end up finishing 8th outside of all Euro places. Makes saving on a signing bonus well spent.
Whatâs frustrating is that City get to spend like crazy, still giving out high, 300,000/week salaries, while these 130+ charges just hang in the air, like a lame duck.
Yep, weâre one injury away from the season going completely down the toilet and the club donât bring in a defender. Virgil is forced to play every game at the moment because of injuries. If anything happens to him, weâre screwed.
Its ok we have saved on that signing on bonus.
The positivity of the summer has well and truly extinguished now.
Weâve also been lucky (?) that KonatĂ© hasnât picked up an injury yet. I hate to jinx it but isnât this maybe the longest run heâs had yet ?
Just now?
We ended that summer transfer window with a number of questions how it would all look like on the pitch. Yes, we made some exciting signings, with Wirtzâs capture being my highlight. No doubt that itâs better to be in a place to have a transfer window like that than not.
But for me, the higher the net spend goes, it doesnât mean Iâm more and more positive. It needs to make footballing sense. Some fans usually laugh at other clubs spending that type of money or downplaying them. âLet others be the winners of transfer windowsâ.
Well last summer, we were those winners.
And we see on the pitch and that money doesnât mean youâll necessarily become better and immediately.
I wonder if they might be holding off in case of further injury. As sketchy as the defence currently looks if Ekitike goes down for the rest of the season we would have to do something up top. Spending money now could put us in a corner in that scenario whilst if we can wait another week or two we might feel more confident to pull the trigger on someone.
Would we also know if weâve got through to the next phase of the CL by then?
The club in my opinion do not seem to value that position very highly even though Arse showed us how important it was to buy many players to cover for every situation (they bought many players who were linked to us) hence why they are the best defense in the league.
I hope that they now lose Wharton and Mateta in this window and Parish will regret deliberately concentrating on having a yoga and a sauna instead of slapping Glasners arse.

The first part doesnât quite make sense, given his performance in the league, both currently and historically.
Personally, I was never really enthused by Guehi. I think we can do a lot better. But I can understand how the club saw this as a market opportunity in the summer.
Those conditions in the summer, no longer existâŠThe club cannot claim to be responsible in their financial dealings, and then spurge upwards of 70mp on a player with about 4mos on his contract.
Moving forward, I think we are all agreed that this puts the team in a risky situation, which I imagine is not lost on the club..
They will have to live and die by thisâŠ
