Does he mean because Tomori won’t cover RB?

I mean that. And unless we sell at least one of our non-HG players we cannot buy more than one new non-HG player.

No but a lot of bed wetting

Regarding Konsa, did anyone see him play RB for England?

I did and he was a very poor going forward and really limited in any attacking sense, the same in an inverted midfield option.

Gomez looks like Cafu in comparison as a RB.

Never mind as RB, he was suspect defensively even as a CB in the WC.

Yes he´s not very good.

We should not be in the position where we want Konsa or Spence.

Oh ok. I doubt we sign a RB. Frimpong is fit, Bradley is expected back “shortly after the season starts” and we currently have Ramsay, Bajcetic, Gomez, Szoboszlai and Jones who are capable of filling in there.

It’s not perfect obviously but if Bradley’s timeline is still around September then I can’t see us spending money on someone else to come in.

And I still believe Iraola can mould Frimping into an excellent RB in his system.

Sweets, your Right Back optimism is as charming as it is baffling, but I defer to your (slightly) superior POTY status.

I’m just leaving this here in case anyone is interested in what James Pearce has to say; if not, just scroll on. :upside_down_face:

But they are homegrown. It’s the main criteria :see_no_evil_monkey:

Well, based on the WC, if we do get a full English team, we will come 3rd!

This nonsense ITKs talk.

Alright mate we´ll just ´keep an eye´ on the CB position.

I agree with this. Fundamentally, we probably shouldn’t have much interest in those players. And it also feels very unlike Liverpool to do those type of bandaid signings, when they already have what I believe they see as their long term solutions in-house.

The CB situation looks a little different, with the club seemingly wanting to extend Konate. To me that suggests they think they need another guy. Or maybe it was about circumstances, I don’t know.

But anyway, a 28 year old who isn’t exceptional, for £60m, I’ll be surprised if we do that deal. They might do something, but if it’s this sort of signing - basically an Endo type of move - I think it’ll be a lower price one.

Yeah I think 60mil makes it surprising as you say if we go for it.

On an extra CB and which type, I suppose it really depends on how good we think Jacquet is. If we see him as first team alongside Van Dijk right now I can understand us getting a steady eddie while Jacquet matures just to help ease him in.

But it´s a big risk. Especially as it assumes Van Dijk can play as many games as last year.

All this speculation about Tomori or Konsa just shows how badly we fucked up with Guehi. Sort that out for £35m 12 months ago and we’d be so much better positioned all round. This isn’t even with the benefit of hindsight. Loads of us were saying this last year.

We’re now scarred from that mistake, will we now make another error of judgement?

That’s a good reason to sell Ramsay then. He’s taking up a non HG space that could be better utilized.

I think what gives me concern is that fuck up was not one of tactics but, IMO, of completely misreading our needs and so applying the wrong strategy (take it or leave it) to a move we absolutely needed to make My concern is we continue to take a really odd position on what the group needs at the back

When it comes to CB recruitment we’re behaving as if we’re confident we have elite options coming through internally and senior additions are a ‘nice to have’ rather than an essential.

It’s so odd, especially when considering the only one who seems to have shown much of anything to date is Ndukwe, who’s only just arrived and so can’t have been a factor in the Guehi deal playing out as it did, nor our behaviour this summer ahead of a season where he’s having to head off on loan.

I’ll add Tsimikas, Endo and Chiesa. Not that I have anything against them. Just..what’s the point? I’d rather see Chambers on the pitch than Tsimikas, Endo is probably the 6th or 7th midfield option at the moment. Seems unnecessary to use a non HG spot on that.

Ok, we probably don’t have the Chiesa alternative. But I like it when we buy attackers. Buy a better one.
