The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Jorge Mendes. FFS.

Definitely one to watch throughout the season; how Quansah does for Leverkusen, and if Jacquet and Leoni establish themselves. We know Iraola wanted to sign Leoni last summer to replace Huijsen, so that’s obviously a player he likes a lot.

I imagine Liverpool would want to get him back, and the contract with the player was said to already have been agreed on. Probably less money than Araujo would want. But then, if Quansah plays regularly this season, and keeps getting picked for England, would he want to come back and risk being the third guy?

Apparently the kid whose been superb in pre-season only has work permit issues until Jan. He can then play.

The issue as I understand it is that the limitation that currently prevents him getting a work permit can be resolved with just a trivial number games at the right level. A small enough number that if he went on loan now he could get them in time to bring him back in the winter window and register him then. So it’s technically possible, but it would require a team in a top 5 league be willing to take on a kid with only 1 senior appearance to his name, and that in Austrian football, and make him important enough to guarantee him games and be willing to let him go half way through the season. It’s not an impossible deal, but its a pretty unattractive one for the loaning team.

Yes, we’re probably looking for a team to take him on temporarily to cover for a long-term injury, etc. That must also have been the reason for playing him alongside Virgil yesterday—to put him in the shop window.

What would the requirement be if the plan is to bring him into our matchday squad for next summer - does that still require a top 5 league loan deal and/ or a fixed number of games that are needed?

Also, as impressive as Ndukwe has looked it is still only preseason and he is just 18 with one competitive senior game to his name.

Theres concerns that Leoni and Jacquet lack experience but now there’s some getting annoyed we might not be able to use this lad immediately.

Really think we should be tempering some expectations here. He needs football and we now have five possible CB options ahead of him, none of whom are getting benched/left out a match day squad for this lad if they’re fit.

At most he makes the bench here a couple times if we have injuries when right now he needs to be playing regularly to aid his long term development.

I have absolutely no idea. The whole thing doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Presumably he has been getting paid since his contract started (July 1st?) yet is technically not authorized to work in the UK. How does that work?

Yes, the idea of playing next season with four very young, inexperienced defenders unsettles me a bit, too. Of course, they’re going to make mistakes in crucial moments—that’s simply part of their development. I would really prefer to have a more experienced “senior” player in the mix.

Have you heard about this Araujo bloke? He’s experienced and also capable of making calamitous mistakes in crucial matches.

Sigh, apparently it’s just a “sticking plaster.” :expressionless_face:

I am the other way I get excited looking at young players rising to the challenge and doing it for us and saving us a fortune in the market whilst becoming potential LFC legends.

Yeah, that sounds great in theory—provided we don’t plan on winning the Champions League or anything like that anytime soon—because then we wouldn’t have anyone left with experience in big, important matches.

We are losing a vast amount of experience next year in Virgil, Ali, and Gomez.

It’s hard to imagine our defence without Virg and Ali. I’ll be gutted. But has to happen at some point

More plausible that Hughes is off home (hopefully for more transfer business), and then Araujo’s agent is returning to base !
Especially after they were spotted together after last night’s game !
