The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Sell him today then and that’s not a problem

We should be shopping at all levels of the market and I can’t fault the club for any of these recent deals - Barcola is the best winger we could find, goes straight in and hopefully adds a real spark that lifts it.

Young goalie from Belgium, young striker/winger from France - bring it on. They don’t factor into anything now, but we still should be recruiting a smattering of the best young prospects we can.

The issue in hand is who will we sign between now and the end of the window to help the team this season? Camara and Minteh would be my picks, if we are limiting it to two more first teamers coming in. If Camara is going to Chelsea that’s a blow, as we need someone in that midfield who is tenacious and covers it better defensively.

The big confusion for me is there’s no need for these future deals to be concluded within the window, so why are we devoting valuable time and attention to them when there are urgent needs to fill?

Still laughing I’m nguessing you’ll get away with that pun!

At least it’s not my account!

I hear you, the priority is the first team as we are short there. Hopefully one or two holes are filled before the window closes. Camara and Minteh for me, but I could be wrong on both counts.

I suspect the deals for the youngsters didn’t take a lot of effort to complete. The fee for the goalie is a surprise, but the market has gone mad.

Perhaps other clubs were pushing to get deals for them, or we wanted to avoid any future price bump?

Because FSG fucked up by not supervising Hughes closely when they got busy with that 1892 Holdings deal and didn’t realise fast enough that Edwards was no good as a supervisor.

Woodfine wasn’t prepped well enough to take over at a short notice.

I am beginning to think that FSG didn’t even call in Edwards/Hughes for a weekly meeting on how the club is doing in Squad building.

As for Edwards’ own team meeting, I don’t think they even had a meeting after the season ended with the scouts, data analysts and Hughes in the same room together…

All reports suggest Camara is chelsea bound and our alternative was Kone at Roma.

Or since Isak.

If we bring 18 year olds in now they’ll potentially have the three seasons on our books before they turn 21 which would technically make them homegrown.

I’m not thrilled we’re wrapping up these deals with other more pressing business to be done but there’s a bit of logic to it.

Very good player that’s the kind of secret Santa signings I like.

I still think if we get a good midfielder in and don’t try replace Gakpo with mid table fodder, we re not in such a bad position.

Barcola is excellent and our team would get much better structure from the midfielder. Yes the full backs aren’t great but you can get away with that somewhat

Yep, looks like we took the “do more transfers like Brighton, Bournemouth etc.” quite literally.

The danger is that you can then quickly become like them i.e. a midtable club… if you get those transfers right that is.

Seriously this guy is good very similar to the out of the blue signing of Munoz.

So we sold Diaz at 28 because he wanted a new contract and we thought £65m was good money for a player of that age.

Now a year later we might be spending that kind of money on a lesser player, of the same age, to fill a gap we’ve known we’d need to fill since March.

Make it make sense.

Maybe they were always on the list as back up?

Kone is better than Camara but very injury prone.

He has actually played 80+ games for Roma the two seasons he’s been there, so it’s not that bad.
