for the way iraola likes to play camara is the better fit, more mobile. kone is a bit slow
I would hold Iraola partially accountable for the current mess. When he came to us he understandably paused our transfer plan under Slot, but the pause lasted too long (it lasted well after WC ended). Had it ended sooner we could have got Wharton or Scott

How do you know this? Did we have agreements in place for those two players?
Iraola has said recently we knew we needed wingers from day one. So it doesn’t seem to me he put anything on hold.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading it takes the biscuit when the new coach barely been on the job a few months being blamed for transfers! The guy isn’t even a manager he is only a measly head coach.

I understand that Wharton initially had been identified as a key target but for Slot. But then Slot got sacked and the thing with Wharton was cooled until after Jones left, then we got back around a week ago but Palace said no.

Id prefer Camara
He’s smaller but he seems to have an amazing ability to get a foot in when he is challenging somebody. More positional discipline and a better passer I think
Kone is more energetic I suppose but Camara isn’t exactly not energetic from what I have seen.
Another option would be the Argie at Benfica , Barrenchea is he called?

I really doubt doing these deals is actively preventing us making progress on any of the lads we’re looking for the first team.

As a big fan of Wharton’s talents I was so disappointed with him against Man City. He was so half arsed and barely got involved. Maybe doesn’t want to be there but even so. I suppose I have seen him play well against them and Arsenal before
Yeah, but the point is we could do them in a week’s time after the window has closed. Doing them less than 48 hours before the window slams shut just seems weird.

I’m wondering if there’s something about him being a small space type of player in terms of his work radius, that there’s some doubts about his ability for example in defensive transitions, which is a big thing for top teams in England playing on the front foot. City paid 115m or so for a guy who excels at that and not much else.
Wouldn’t be a big surprise if he moves abroad. Or if he stays in England, Chelsea seem like the most intuitive fit, for me at least.

you right in your assessement. he is a player who thrives next to a runner. without an “adams” for example, he would struggle with iraola ball as he is not very mobile
Hmm maybe but I have seen him have excellent games against City and Arsenal before (and us), so I doubt it.
His team is crap right now and the setup was all wrong from the manager but what concerned me is he didn´t look that bothered. He wasn´t making any effort to get on the ball and do anything. It is true that he would usually need to have a good DM next to him but to not even get on the ball imo is very poor. On his lack of mobility, it´s like Alonso right? He´d be the same if you didn´t put a ball winner next to him. If you do, he´s brilliant. Even Xavi. You wouldnt pair two Xavi´s next to each other. He always was best with a proper anchor next to him.
To be honest I think Anderson got shown up big time at the World Cup too.

It’s not even that. It’s the complete lack of skepticism over any piece of news that makes its way out into the universe. It’s treating speculation or even clear click bait nonsense as fact. It’s acting like one piece of well sourced reporting is the entire story.
I remember someone here last year being so angry about how stupid we were in response to a story of us receiving an offer for Jones that he continued to be angry about us accepting and offer for him without a replacement already through the door long after the window closed without us having done any such thing.

Yeah, I heard on a podcast this summer that most of his defensive actions happen in a small radius, so it seems like Glasner gave him a very small space to defend.
When I watch him play, he looks fairly mobile to me, but it depends on the situation. He’s got the ability to get past an opponent with the ball, and jump into a press as well. But then his weakness seems to be turning around, changing direction, reacting quickly enough in defensive situations.
So I’m not sure what to think about him. Brilliant in attacking transitions and generally excellent passing, but Iraola won’t be able to hide him defensively like Glasner seemingly did.
