He used to be able to do all that and make things happen for himself at times

And he’ll regain that in a matter of weeks. Hes adapting to a new coach/playing style, after a terrible first season for us which included a significant injury. Two matches into this season is not enough of a sample size to write him off imo.

I was just saying that right now there is a lot wrong with him and hopefully he gets back to his old self with match fitness and sharpness.
But it’s pure denial to suggest he’s all fine right now.
It looks like Newcastle has beaten us for the signing of Fernandez-Pardo.
I don’t think he was literally saying that we didn’t start work early enough. He is saying that the lightness in Liverpool’s forward line was known about a long time in advance, we knew what needed to be done, and we shouldn’t really be going into the final day of the window with a lack of clarity over our options.
I think it’s fairly clear that our first choice for the right wing was Diomande, and we got strung along by a player clearly using us for a better offer somewhere else. That’s OK, it happens, but it would have been nice if we could have drawn a line under that a bit quicker. But we’ve then got ourselves embroiled in another saga for Barcola, which it’s great we’ve won, and I think he’ll he great, but not so great that our current player on the left has now been unsettled, and we’re scrabbling round trying to find a right winger, that can replace him and rebalance a forward line that looks more left leaning than a Momentum AGM.

Turning down £70m for a lad turning 29 (who’s very good but not exactly world class) and wants to leave is crazy to me, yet they’re happy to be bent over by Arsenal for Eze, City for Guehi or Forest for Munoz?

I can only respond to the argument he made, and as I have explained why I think the specific part I pulled out is based on a shit one. He is complaining about an outcome he doesn’t like, which it completely understandable and likely shared by the overwhelming majority. However, he isn’t just saying we shouldnt be in this position. He is saying we are because of things that arent true and because of things that dont necessarily follow (just because you did your planning doesnt mean you can get to the desired outcome earlier than we have).

He’s not at his best, but neither is it as bad as you suggest.

It´s not just two games though is it. He was also very poor at the WC but even ignoring that, in those two games he was bad enough for Carragher to think he might be part of the worst transfer window ever.
A tap in doesn´t mask his performances so far. Barely touched the ball and when he has had the ball he has mis controlled it or been sloppy. He looks miles off it. As I said, a lot wrong with him right now. I didn´t say he can´t recover though.
