I don’t mind seeing the youth sigings come in. Need to take a punt on youth, something we’ve been saying for a long while. Sign them before they end up at Bournemouth or Brighton and make a name for themselves there.
Ofcourse, we want the shiney toys that can play now, but in 2-3 years these rough diamonds in the form of youth players may well be breaking into the first team and making a difference.
Hopefully Hughes has a CM incoming for now…but its getting a bit tight. The idea of 75m on Sarr does make me shudder.

Transfer fees have exploded yet again, and they’ve stopped making sense decades ago.
For what it’s worth, Sarr would be a nice option to have and he’d prove useful, but I would have moved for him 6 years ago, not now.
In any case, it seems that after Barcola and the two youngsters we are done for the summer.

It’s not so much the fee but more the thought that we didn’t want to give a 28 year old another contract and so took good money for him only for us to be looking at a lesser 28 year old for the same kind of role this summer.
Granted, I’d expect Sarr to be on a lower contract but he’s also not nearly the level Diaz was and has continued to show he’s at.
Just seems incredibly disjointed.

It doesn’t mean we can’t buy anyone. It just means we won’t be able to register everyone, if we’ve got more than 17 non homegrown players.

Can get a better price with Scott next summer, since his contract will expire in summer 2028 and he has refused to renew his contract
Palace might as well say that Sarr is worth 150M - they’re just as likely to get that as they would 75M. He’s 28 and has had one productive season in his career. Relies heavily on pace when that’ll be gone before his contract expires.
Let them keep him. I’d rather pay 70M for Minteh (which would be an overpay, but I like him a lot more) than a similar fee for Sarr.
My ideal approach, though, would be to sit on Gakpo for a year and then go all-in for Rayan.

Still very poor planning if you don’t have any HG options in your transfer plan.
Even in last season we tried to sign Guehi for that exact reason.

exactly, this is the least of our problems
It wasn’t just his age and money. Slot viewed the way teams started playing against us the in the second half of his first season as part of a larger shift in English football and he didnt think the team he had were well suited to where that was going. All teams were becoming less interested in possession and committing fewer players forward less often, leaving a lot less opportunity for counters. That is what our side was built for and he felt it wasnt good enough at what would define success in this new era - patiently coaxing a low block out of its organization and not clinical enough with the small number of chances that come our way. Diaz was one of the players whose face didnt fit anymore in the characteristics of the front line Slot felt we needed to address the coming challenge.
We now seem to have reevaluated that vision being the best way to meet the challenge of what English football now looks like and annoyingly would surely have room for not only a Diaz like player, but even the current Diaz himself with what we want to do now.

Can we please ask Hughes to take Isak with him for 125 million pounds and compensate all his wrong doings. Atleast that would free up funds and we can complete 4-5 deals !! We will be far more competitive. Two wingers, a cdm and a RB and Woltemade.
There’s nothing wrong with Isak. We’re changing the focus of our goalscoring from the wings to the centre.
Just needs more time.

Isak has scored one in two games so far, but he hasn’t seen too much of the ball or much in the way of service. The unit needs to grow together, and I think that will come. Sorting out the wings and spending a bit more time together should see a big uptick.
So long as he stays fit for most of the season, I’m backing Isak to bang in the goals.

Tbh there is clearly quite a lot wrong with Isak at the moment but the hope is that he gets that sharpness to his play back with time

Service to him from both full backs has been apalling so far too. He’d be absolutely fine if they were better. Imagine if Trent was still here. Hurts to think about it.
Anyway, all in hindsight. But I think both full back positions should be highly prioritised next Summer or even January.
Fingers crossed the new dof actually has some sense about them.
