Yeah, I’m not going to bother any more. Fed up with being shouted at about how crap we are.
Hence why we have brought in Araujo as additional option to cover, along with Gomez when fit.
Doesn’t have to. We have 4 other senior midfielders who may perform better under Andoni’s system once it is properly embedded.
We have Gakpo. Barcola started his career as a centre forward and Koumas can also offer minutes there.

I think Chiesa stays to allow for RW cover and flexibility of other players along the front line means attack wise I think we are good and will be excellent once Ekitike is back.
Midfield and RB are my concerns where we’d ideally like an extra player each, but can see them sticking which some flexibility (Araujo, Gomez) and fringe players (Endo) until we find the right player.
Chiesa and Endo are technically replaced by Koumas and McConnell. They are still in the squad because there are maybe no suitors for them going out. I don’t see them getting any serious minutes this season.
But counting Bradley as a RB starter and playing Szoboszlai in a double pivot will be two serious mistakes.
I care, but I don’t if you know what I mean, I just look forward to us playing and hopefully with an exciting brand of footy.
If we win, we win, and I expect/hope we win everything but if we don’t hey ho.
Regarding transfers if they come I want them to do well and lead to our success, but I also love seeing the youth players come through and do well, even more so than the big money signings.
I do enjoy fun banter and discussing tactics and players and will whinge at players performing poorly.
However, all that said, I hate this, ‘we’re doomed mentality’ and making out our players are shit and shiny new toys are the better.
Who are these?
Honestly interested as I haven’t a clue.
Someone keeps mentioning Rice, who I’m aware of, though he would never have joined us.
The choice is easy, as there isn’t one
.
Yeah, our midfielders are, World cup winner, player of the season and Hungary captain, starting Dutch international and previous young player of the season in the premier league.
But there are heaps out there that are better.
Just to say that it was reported that they were both in the squad because AI rates them and wants them around. There were suitors for them.
I´m a bit worried about that.
To me, Sarr or Minteh would represent a desperation signing we don´t need as we can wait until Jan.
I really want us to get a good midfielder, but with it being last day I hope we don´t panic buy there either.
To be honest, we should have known that 2 or 3 years ago. We knew his age.
I always thought when Olise was at Palace we should have gotten him and played him on the left for a bit until Salah dipped. A bit unlucky maybe that Bayern nipped in.
Hopefully we´re well aware of Van Dijk´s age and are starting to look for his successor or at least a very solid stopgap. I know we have Leoni and JAcquet but they´re too young.
I know me and you ding dong sometimes, but yes you´re right that we´re absolutely not doomed.
Even now at this stage, whilst I disagree with you on how you rate the current midfield and your justification, I think one good midfielder in puts us in a good position for the season. So we´re pretty close, all said and done eh.
We have two excellent young cbs and our front 4 is pretty decent, as well as Wirtz if he finds form. The rebuild is well underway rather than just starting, and from here, adding a few good players to those young players could see us shoot up the table in my view, if Iraola does his part well.
Easy to say now, since it’s highly questionable whether Olise on the left would be even good for us at the time.
He was certainly an interesting player, though I wondered if there was enough pace and end product to one day be a right winger here.
He’s done incredibly well since, genuinely one of the world’s best players right now.
I am not saying I wouldn’t buy a midfielder as I would be all over Camara on stats alone and sè the benefit of Wharton.
It is just our supporters denigrating our players that I don’t like, when the options quoted aren’t proven when our players are.
I loved Jurgen getting the best out players through man management and coaching and I feel Iraola will do the same.
Also, remember who bought our 3 midfielders, the one and only Jurgen.
I think a lot of clubs were worried about his injury history, hamstrings I think?
Yes. it´s tricky because it´s fine margins really isnt it. Our midfielders are clearly all good players. We are essentially arguing if they´re good or very good (or even a fit behind Wirtz), and to argue just good or not suited to a 2, essentially you have to point out the negatives.
Hopefully, you might be right. Iraola seems quite shrewd and discerning in a way Klopp maybe wasn´t on the surface. I thought he was very quick to act on the Newcastle midfield issue and almost a bit ruthless in the way he called it out. I quite like it.
Yep indeed Klopp did. Although he also assembled Thiago and Fabinho and he signed the 3 midfielders to play together not with Wirtz. I think they´d be fine if Wirtz wasnt in the 10 and they played as a 3. That´s also the issue really. It´s not that they wouldnt be good for a 3 man midfield.
I remember our title winning season and how some were saying how our midfield would walk into Arsenal’s and City’s midfield. You get them firing together there’s no reason why these debates can be had again.
Not that I was completely convinced however it shows what a changé in fortunes can bring.
Anyone expecting a serious title challenge this season is deluded beyond belief.
It’s perfectly fine to hope for one, but its very unlikely to happen.
The new coach has to be given this season to implement his methods, and anyone with a level head would realise that top 4, a good run in the CL, and maybe an FA Cup or League Cup would be a fantastic season.
- Provided we’re seeing signs to reasonably expect a league title challenge next season
Transfer deadline day, who’s excited?!?!?!?!?!
