Well even then, Lampard KDB arguably and Gerrard played primarily as the furthest forward which in our side would be Wirtz.
And yes I am not that keen on the modern obsession with stats but you would probably find things like interceptions, how he gets the ball forward etc to be the key metrics.
Yeah not sure it´s a good move for him to be honest but I actually think it´s a shrewd signing from them. Just the fee is too much
I was annoyed when Chelsea got him as I thought he seemed like exactly the sort of player we should be bringing in to replace Mo.
I think he looks really good, however he seems to have developed a worrying propensity for hamstring injuries (and is still currently out with his latest one), which would give me pause going for him now.
I’d be very much surprised if that was the case. He’s been nailed on to go to Tottenham for quite a while and isn’t good enough for Man City, so I doubt he’d be good enough for where we want to be.
That said, there’s a worrying lack of attainable right wingers who are of required quality, we’ll probably have to get creative there.
If we’re talking more affordable mids then I think the Ivory Coast kid Christ Inao Oulai is the best thing I’ve seen this WC. He’s only 20 and is a Kante ringer. Amazing little fella and as I speak I’m seeing reports Chelsea may be in for him for £35m. Is there anyone they aren;t linked to?
Yeah, these reports may be false of course, but they do indicate a lack of options for the RW position. Its why we were willing to go in big for Diomande.
Whoever we bring in will end up being someone we need to develop such as a Minteh or just someone solid enough and with a relatively low asking price. Maybe someone like Neto or Savinho who are deemed surplus at their current club or someone with an expring contract like Karim Adeyemi or Brahim Diaz.
He would be an interim signing i guess, so that we have a squad to do what we need and then can upgrade as and when the right iptions appear.
Doesnt score enough goals but there was a recent video (may have been Clery or the guys from The Athletic) on why we were struggling and used footage of Savimho, showing his ability and intelligence at stretching defences and timing his passes into the box to show what we were lacking.
In a world where Diomande is off the table and most of the other targets are primarily LWs, I have to be honest… I’m not entirely opposed to Savinho.
Hasn’t made it at City under Pep, but he wouldn’t be the first wide player that’s been the case for as his requirements for the role are highly specific, but he was seen as a bit of a coup for them when he came in on the basis of a good season in La Liga.
We have a manager now with a proven track record of developing players far beyond what was expected of them previously, so I could see it.
Iraola is far more encouraging of his wide guys taking risks than is Pep. In principle you can very easily see how a maverick type player would find themselves not fitting at City and failing out for reasons that have nothing to do with talent and thriving in a different environment that encourages and nurtures that individual flair.
I guess that many other top clubs find themselves in the same situation regarding wingers. Funnily enough, I’ve talking to one Aussie Arsenal fan that I’m playing Warhammer Tacticus with and he said they needed a great left winger to properly dominate the league. I immediately thought of Barcola and he got linked with Arsenal earlier today, right after The Athletic had reported that PSG’s valuation of him was extremely high. I don’t think we’ll be signing Barcola.
I wonder if Juventus would sell Yildiz now they are not playing CL (and signing Ronaldo seems to have destroyed their finances for the short-to-mid term). We also got linked with Conceicao but I’ve always the impression Yildiz was miles ahead of him. What are the odds of going for another Munoz-like option? When are you going to do another stat run for us on possible signings? I’m nothing if not persistent!
While I’m convinced that the focus on scoring goals will shift from the flanks to the centre under Iraola, I think that we need a winger who’s not afraid to go past his marker and who can chip in with some goals. Savinho might be the former but I don’t see him being the latter, though. I’m speaking from the games I’ve seen, not from the stats. Maybe he’s much better than I think but I don’t think we should target him or Neto, who Sweeting mentioned, simply because Man City and Chelsea will quote extortionate prices for them, relative to their output.
City do well to get good money out of their youngsters but they historically have not been too tight when it comes to senior players who need to be moved on. Maybe that is partly a salary thing in that they have to give a little to get a big wage off their books and so maybe wouldnt apply in this case. But I’d imagine the cost for Savinho, if they have decided they are open to offers because its best if they replace him, will be dictated more by how much of an auction there is for him than because of a high mark set to allow him to leave
I have to say, I quite rate Savinho´s talents. He is very good at beating players and he has good speed. If he can get that end product consistent I think there is a top player there.
