The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Barcola is not worth 113m. They are trying to extort large sums to pay off the Diomande deal. If Arsenal is willing to stump up that amount of cash they are welcome to him. Time to look elsewhere.

Interestingly he shouldn’t have been as out of no where as he seemed to be. When his name first came up I assumed he was some up coming prospect. I was surprised to find out he was developed enough to have made it into the Spain squad for the world cup, one of the favourites. How far we are having to cast the net now to find the next possible target is forcing us to include players meaningless less developed/tested or who come with baggage

We can play MuƱoz or Rio there.

If we can get a top quality LW and we can“t get a top quality RW, do that I“d say.

I see Chelsea have now signed Palestra for 47m. Some on here wanted him.

He holds onto the ball far too long so many times in that video.

Almost every clip.

My guy! Ok, I might be slightly biased..but I like him a lot.

How good is he?

He“s very nippy and has quick feet but I expected him to be blowing full backs away and he hasnt really. Then again, not many wingers have.

Yeah, he does but when you are only 19/20 it comes with the territory I think. What I liked was how he kept hold of it, his rapid change of pace and direction and reading of the game. He’d need good habits coached into him but the promise is there. I also think the makers tend to highlight the flashy stuff - he didn’t do that all the time in the WC games I saw.

I like the look of him. Got a bit of everything. Pace, trickery, quick feet, finishing. That first goal against Ivory Coast was superb!

It was a rarity as he doesnt score many. I just double checked and interestingly his strike rate for Norway is WAY higher than it is in club football.

I don“t know, a lot of players never learn it.
In fact, the smart young kids are the ones who know the value of an early pass.

I also watched some of his games and he was a bit like that to be honest. He does shield the ball well but he kills a lot of moves taking so long.

Is that because he plays different roles for club vs country?

Yeah, not many wingers lighting up the tournament in that regard. I’d say Vini is pretty much the only winger who’s consistently been having his way with full backs so far.

I’ve liked him for some time, but I’ve probably watched him more for the national team the last couple of years than for Leipzig. For the national team he’s been excellent, more up and down for Leipzig. Often plays well without having the end product to back it up.

His top level is very high, so it’s about performing consistently at a high level. If he does that, raises his ā€˜floor’ a little and adds some more goals, I think he’s a 100m player. He’s got the physique and all the skill to get there.

Another Leipzig lad. Won’t be cheap. Especially after the world cup he’s had so far.

How different can it be? Norway were the top scoring side in qualifying and spanked several sides, including putting 7 past Italy in their two games. I assumed he just filled his hat in those rollovers, but seemingly not. He only got 2 in qualifying (from their 37) and both of those were important goals against Italy.

I’m increasingly of the opinion that the cost of football players can’t be left to the market. It is getting absurd and these costs are only going to filter down to the fans, in the stadium or following on TV.

Hang on, are you actually Norwegian? Ha, I always assumed your name was just a Beatles reference

But yes, I am :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ah interesting. Thank you.

That“s the challenge eh, trying to find those ones who can go up a level or two.

He does frustrate me sometimes from the little I have seen where you think he could be more direct running at his full back, but thats most wingers nowadays.

I think he passes fairly well and he has very good control of the ball when dribbling and they are good starting points for a top player.

I thought it was a reference to the Murakami novel
