Having watched the requisite amount of Spurs dreck over the past 2 seasons, I’m not sure if Van de Ven offers anything more than speed and the ability to break Isak’s leg. Especially at what I’ve read weeks to months back about how much Spurs wanted for him. Would we be looking at him to provide fullback cover since he plays there for the Dutch national team?

I don’t know, I’m getting a strong bull in china shop vibe every time I see him play full back. I think he works there in that typical Dutch style of the full back being there to cover for the winger and create the platform for him to go 1v1. But in a style where the full back is expected to contribute offensively with lots of overlapping and combinations..I’d be sceptical.

Van Hecke and Virgil in the middle, Van de Ven left back. Virgil left sided centre back.

And they seem reluctant to sell that young croatian CB whom they value highly and he would not stay if he is going to be 5th choice so VDV or Romero might have to leave if they want to keep him.

When I saw Van Hecke next to Virgil in the WC I wasn’t filled with a even a bit of regret. What they paid for him was way too much as he is bang average.

Yes it was a lot of money and yes he’s bang average now but for years Virgil was the best in the world.
