Tuchel has also approached England more like a club team than most do. He seems first and foremost to care about how well they have done for him. That means big names who havent played that well (Foden) dont carry much weight with him. And likewise talented players on the outside. The way he has approached the job has made it a difficult group to break into if you werenāt part of the initial group. It means talented players like Jones who someone else might look at and say āhe can do a job for us in a few different waysā who other England managers would have found room for just dont get a look in under Tuchelās England FC approach unless they are already part of the group from 18 months ago
Thatās just speculation and thereās nothing to show Jones would have more effect in Ligue 1 than Morton, much less that heād be one of the best mids there. I donāt see French clubs lining up to take him, even though Morton has set a good example. These comparisons are moot really because Morton is younger and his development physically was slower at Liverpool. Heās argued that he was ready for first team football but wasnāt given the chance by Slot and his rapid progress since seems to prove his point. His ascent is on the up whereas for me Curtis has stayed on the same underwhelming level. He flatters to deceive, walks around a lot and shows no real ambition IMO. Heās not a terrible player and I don;t āhateā him. I just think we need to aim higher than him. For me Morton was always a lockpicker with a highly progressive passing range and thatās what we need. Hey, Curtis might be here next season and Iraola might get a tune out of him, Harvey and Mac which would be awesome but based on last season Iād rather he was replaced.
Iāve not seen masses of Bouaddi but what I have seen hasnāt particularly impressed me, although he is very young. Seems showy but not a lot of end product, for me.
I think Iraola likes Jones because he likes Jonesās buccaneering approach to the game - one that undoubtedly hurt him with Slot, but seems right up Iraolaās alley.
Only one French club could afford him and they are pretty well stocked in midfield.
I appreciate your admiration of Morton. I donāt agree with your assessment of him as a player - and obviously I think your assessment of Jones is incorrect.
This is the radar comparison for Morton and Jones this season. Curtis is in pink.
I“d argue he“s picked players on club form and how well he thinks they have played for their clubs, which is why Foden, Palmer and event Trent didn“t get in
With stones being a bit of an odd exception. Seems like Tuchel didnt really fancy Jones for England based on what he saw for us, even in the friendlies to have a look at players. Didnt get called up to even have a chance (which i would say he should have been).
Where did you get that image from? If Curtis does stay I canāt wait to see what Iraola does with him because he surely won;t put up with his dawdling on the ball and sideways passing stuff. Maybe it will be the making of him because I just cannot for the life of me work out what some people see in Jones that makes them go āWow!. We canāt possibly think of getting rid of Curtis. Look what he brings to our play.ā I mean Iād love to be drooling over a player with sumptuous passing, tackling, energy and goal scoring ability, but I genuinely donāt see that. In fact, I spend most of time shouting at the TV when Curtis is on the ball. Heās clearly a player who divides opinion but I insist that if he was playing for another club we wouldn;t all be screaming to buy him. Weāll see if Hughes gives him the chance to do something for Iraola.
Spence has been a mixed bag this WC but very decent as a sub. I actually think TAA would have been very effective considering the amount of crossing England has done and when you consider how unreliable James is maybe Trent should be there. Tuchel clearly doesnāt rate him though and like Palmer and Foden you have to think itās part of their character he doesnāt fancy.
But there are tonnes of players like that, doesnāt mean they arenāt useful. We donāt own Ismaila Sarr and I also donāt want us to buy him due to his probable high price, age and relatively low output with the exception of this season. However if he was already here I also wouldnāt want to sell him because he would be a very useful option in the wide areas that could regularly contribute.
So while I may not have been jumping on the table demanding we sign Curtios Jonesito from Espanyol the fact we already have him plays a huge part of the assessment. To this date Iām not convinced by anyone else we are linked with - Alex Scott, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Joao Gomes, Manu Kone, Gilberto Mora, Kaishu Sano and Felix Nmecha - that they are as good as Jones who is already here and has contributed to elite Liverpool squads regularly for years.
