It is for now, but if they expect Ramsay to go or just not be registered we’re down to 17 by my count. And I’m guessing Ekitike won’t be registered the first half of the season, so if they add Barcola and nothing else happens it shouldn’t be an issue until January. Unless I’m wrong, which is always a bit of a coin toss.
Then there’s also the possibility of more ins and outs the next month. But yes, I’m curious about this as well. If they’re signing more foreign players than the winger, then someone will get sold - or told they’re not playing CL this season, like Chiesa last season before an injury allowed them to register him.

If LFC do sign Barcola at the fee suggested… I hope it is not because there is something with Isak or Ekitike that the club don’t like… thus their days are numbered…
I for one, would certainly like to see some positive return from the purchase of Isak, but my gut feeling is that it isn’t going to happen

I don’t think there is any connection there. This very much seems to be just a reflection of the current market and our existing need to strengthen our wings.
If this deal gets finalised then we potentially have our forward line and wings sorted for the next few years at least.

The injury is severe enough that in all likelihood, he is not going to be fully ready till the back end of this season - or even further out in case there are complications. That means we basically have Isak and possibly Gakpo as the the only senior strikers (am not counting wingers/slightly deeper players such as Munoz or Ngumoha, Chiesa and Wirtz).
Am not a huge fan of Barcola but if management see him as a striker (I am not convinced he is a consistently good finisher to be seen as such) then it could make sense.

Ekitike and Isak both operate through the centre, to get them on the park together (200m) youd assume Ekitike floats out left.
we now have Gakpo and Rio working out there, and the possibility of Wirtz as well…
the Barcola purchase adds another body into that mix.
do we have a plan here, like we seemd to used to have, or are we just stockpiling quality footballers and hoping the coach figures out the rest?
love to hear a few opinions on this… @Sweeting ? @Nikola and @Zoran who specifically has discussed the issue with getting both Ekitike and Isak on the same park…

Last summer the hottest property on the market was Florian Wirtz. Liverpool went and got him, for big money, fending off Bayern (who still seem to be furious about it) and City.
We were interested in Diomande. We were willing to pay a lot for him and had some discussions with his agents about a move. He decided he wanted PSG, and we moved on.
How is this ‘ getting played’. This sounds like negativity for the sake of negativity to me.

I read last year part of the plan last season may have been to have Ekitike and Isak often starting together with both capable of drifting wide on their respective sides. Injuries meant that option wasn’t really available, and won’t be for much of this season.
We do but they can all play other positions for example Rio has been talked of as playing at least some games on the right this season and Gakpo up front. And many see Wirtz playing a more central position which they think is his best role anyway.
I think most people will probably think of Gakpo being a back up though if he is staying (there have been rumours this summer that Spurs were looking to buy him, and he was linked with Bayern last season before Diaz moved there who himself is now being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. Given recent sad news it wouldn’t surprise me if Gakpo did want to move to be closer to family.) .
We certainly will have a plan. No doubt there has been some sort of thinking around how to move forward without a like for like option being available to us to truly replace Mo on the right and how we will account for injuries and other positional headaches. That Mike Tyson quote will play its part here though - Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

But if he’s saying he’s not signing a new deal and only has two years left on his deal then asking for a silly fee now only increases the chances he stays. Then next summer they’re having to sell at a huge reduction.
Last summer Newcastle wanted “at least £150m” for Isak. Didn’t get it though.

I think its a concern but one that’s essentially bore out of a lack of quality options in the world for the RW position.
If Barcola signs I expect he will start LW and be backed up by Ngumoha. I think Wirtz also plays out there a lot. I’m thinking Gakpo and Munoz might be the RW options (when Ekitike returns). So RW would be more about being direct, getting to the byline and crossing while LW is about attacking the goal and being the secondary goal threat.
I do think we want better RW options but I don’t see any available quality options right now.

Apparently Barcola played mainly at RW during his last season at Lyon… it’s not overwhelming evidence but it does offer up the possibility that it’s not as straightforward as us seeing him as exclusively a LW option.

I don’t think this says anything about Isak or Ekitike. We first started trying to sign Barcola last summer after we sold Diaz. He is our first choice Diaz replacement and if the concern is how do we fit all three in the forward line at the same time, maybe we don’t but we need depth. Barcola can potentially fill in on the right or center forward and Ekitike could be backup to Wirtz as well.
