The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 5)

Even the rumors that we might sell Gakpo are that we aren’t pushing to sell him. More if we get a good enough offer and Gakpo wants to go. Which could probably be applied to a few players.

At this stage we probably shouldn’t though, we’ve got enough bigger issues in the squad without creating more for ourselves.

Close to zero chance that Gakpo leaves. I don’t get the Cody hate. He was no worse than half a dozen other players last season but get picked on, only to go and have an excellent WC under difficult circumstances. Iraola will want to see how he can use him.

If a 90-100m pounds bid comes in for Gakpo, would anyone say not consider a bit before saying no?

100%

Can’t believe how slack the club has been wrt CBs. Cf Arsenal.

I’ve said for several seasons that we need to be turning the squad over - 4-6 players every summer - and got ridiculed ‘why change a winning formula’ etc. The best teams always introduce new competition every season or things get stale, the reality of bigger squads is that replacing 4-6 first team players every season does not destroy the core but ensures that we aren’t left in a position where we need 10 new players because our recruitment team have had a few quiet windows - three out of Slot’s four windows with the risk this is the fourth of five.

We definitely have to buy two among Konsa, Tomori Acheampong and Chalobah. I prefer Tomori and Acheampong duo, one Klavan-style option and one up-and-coming young player, and both are related to Chelsea lmao.

As for Quansah, I’d like to wait until 2027 to get him at a good price, unless Newcastle or Tottenham jumps in this summer.

In the unlikely rumour section this is the highest unlikely rumour we are likely to get. It won’t happen.

Awesome

What a messy affair. I read that someone on X/twitter mentioned that chance is opened again for LFC to put it a bid, but LFC has indicated that the club has moved on to different target.

Romain Molina explained it in the video.

I’d prefer some substance to that source.

Why bring in an up and coming defender we’ve got 4 of them.

Long winded way of saying…

“We should buy Wharton”

I´d even buy two midfielders.

Getting rid of 2 or 3.

Sky Sports are reporting Spurs’ interest in Gakpo;

Spurs interested in Liverpool’s Gakpo

Tottenham are interested in signing Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi wants to sign at least one wide attacker after making big moves to improve his midfield and defence.

Liverpool would not be willing to let Gakpo depart without having a replacement through the door.

The Netherlands International also has four years on his deal and would not come cheap.

Gakpo is one of the more experienced forwards in Andoni Iraola’s squad.

He also has the capacity to provide striker cover, for which there is a greater need while Hugo Ekitike continues his rehab from an Achilles injury.

If Gakpo were to go - and Barcola arrived in his place - it would leave Liverpool with teenager Rio Ngumoha and new-signing Victor Munoz as their other options on the wing.

Oh we do.

This we need 2 or 3 players idea is nonsense. The squad is not even close to being consistent league and champions league contenders, now that Salah is gone and Van Dijk and Ali fading. If we want secure top 4 then sure, 2 or 3.

Unless Iraola is a wizard, I think people are expecting a bit too much and might be disappointed.

Iraloa may be a genius, but sadly I would not expect much this season. Hughes has been quite frankly a disgrace in how he has performed since being here all in all.

I will always want us to win the league first and foremost, but Hughes really has fucking dampened excitement since he has been here, and this transfer window is just another wasted chance of bolstering the positions that needed it mostly, yes there are still 4 weeks left to do so, but there genuinely seems to be no real activity from this waster.

I imagine we will get one or two in and cover the worst weaknesses people on here think we have. CB, RB, LW.

But it won´t be enough. As daft as they are in general, Spurs and Chelsea are having a real go at it and we in comparison aren´t.

In all seriousness how many players do you think we need to sign to have a squad to achieve the minimum of cl qualification.

Who would have thought what a mess we would become in the 14 months since the title win. Its nothing short of diabolic handling of the club at the higher level and the general management of squad make up. If we don’t get significant additions in between now and end of the window this could be back to the pre Klopp league finishing position.

Worse part is when klopp left we were in a fairly decent position for the immediate future, as referenced by the title win…

Similar to how pep has left city in a good position…this really stems from hughes to me..just seems a total waste of a person .

A right winger replacing Mo a left winger to replace Diaz who we haven’t yet Rio isn’t the answer isn’t consistent enough a CB a right back because neither options are good enough and possibly a left back because 12 months ago we decided Tsimikas wasn’t good enough and another midfielder.
