Yeah, no idea if this guy is legit and there are a lot of chancers who will just throw things at the wall and then celebrate when one of them sticks, but I will repeat that last week in one of his interviews Dom was talking about the players yet to return and notably used the word “if” when referring to Alexis.

Mostly. But he wasn’t great in the last part of the title winning season either.
I’m chilled either way. If he stays he is a very good player, when on form. I don’t think his legs have gone or anything like that. I think last season the whole thing was poor, and my suspicion is he conserved his energy a bit for a good World Cup.
If we are to see him at his best again at Liverpool the midfield will need some consideration, as it’s not his forte to have to close down a lot of space if there are huge gaps out there.
Overall I would sell, provided there is a good offer on the table and he wants to go. I would not initiate a departure, but I would do it if it came our way.
The money would of course have to be reinvested into the team. I’m not forcing him out the door though. If he stays, he’s a good player and I will be hoping he gets back to his best form for Liverpool.
I disagree it was the whole squad that had the general shitness through the turgid football.

It’s a fair point. He is a good player. I would not be initiating a departure, but if he was open to it, and a good offer was on the table, I would lean towards accepting it and reinvesting the dough.
The little snippet from Limie above is notable for me, with Dom using the word “if” about Macca’s return. That’s very different to “when” he returns.
I’m saying I’m chilled a lot, because I am with this one. If he stays he’s a good player. If he goes, it will be for a decent offer that Iraola will reinvest. Let’s see what happens.
We had about 20 months between his first game and us securing the title in his second season. Through that period he was talked about as one of our best ever signings in terms of impact and cost. I get we need to be focused on what a player can do in the future not just the past, but memories can be very short.
If he leaves, and I think it is possible based on the way Dom spoke about it, I hope we get good money. But he will be missed if it happens.

I think what needs real consideration as an aside to whether some of our existing players are still good enough on a consistent enough basis to hold down a starting berth… is whether their attitude is still on point for doing the business for LFC. To me, attitude and ability constitute whether a player stays or goes in the next few weeks.
Been there done it and still got the same shirt from our PL winning season, can have a tendency to blunt a cutting edge attitude of self-discipline, unless of course we have a gaffer that constantly and consistently drives the point home for perfection.
Something I personally feel was lacking from our last manager, with his come day go day everyday is Sunday laid back attitude, and as it could so easily have become a habit which has carried over, again, I hope it is something that is not tolerated anymore at the club.

Nyoni is probably the one example of a player who I think could “replace” whatever midfielder we might have targeted this summer. I think he’s good enough to see serious minutes. He looks like he’s continuing to grow into his frame and his technical ability has improved.
Elliott is trick-or-treat for me. In the preseason friendlies I watched, I saw a player who enjoyed the direct play of Iraola. But he also found himself out of position on the counter repeatedly. Maybe that’s a reality of Iraola’s aggressive system - we saw that with Klopp at times in those early years. But with no signs of any transfer activity surrounding him, I’m assuming he’ll stay.
Bajcetic is obviously a big question mark, but if he can (finally) stay healthy, that’s another potential add.
That’s three “new” potential midfielders.
And in that scenario, I can see them letting Jones get sold. I’d personally prefer to sell Macca, though.

To call this guy an unreliable source would be like calling hurricane a speedy movement of air. He’s a blagger of the highest order, throwing stuff and seeing if anything sticks.

I don’t think that Gakpo can offer what Iraola wants from his wingers, and his stock is reasonably high after the World Cup, so I could see the merit in selling him. That said, it would require buying two wingers, in my opinion, both of them starters - unless Iraola and his staff expect Morrison to be able to contribute right off.
I’m really, really worried about our squad building, especially compared to what the clubs that finished above us last season are doing. We got to the point where, for various reasons, we can’t field a proper starting XI, whereas Arsenal can field two, FFS.

That´s the big challenge isn´t it.
Are two very good wingers out there? And are we capable of bringing them in. I´d have doubts on both of those questions.
I think the risk we run is the very same things fans did last year with Diaz can’t wait to get shut then regret that decision all season.
