The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 6)

This might not be popular but I would only give a one year extension if he wanted to stay here. A lot can change in a short time in the latter part of a top player’s career. There is a job for Virg to do, besides playing, and that is to help bring the young breed through.

That’s the sort of pitch I’d be making, as a one year extension. Help set us up for the next cycle. For all we know, he might want a nice two year contract in sunnier climes to round out his top level playing days.

I’m just romanticising the whole thing because he has been such a stalwart for us for so many years I think he can play until he is forty just like Maldini, Thiago Silva, they might be slower but their footballing brains remained undimmed for both their countries and clubs.
To make sure he doesn’t break down after the extension to his contract as you suggested he might get one year extension at a time.

The most decent thing LFC could do with a stalwart like Virgil, is to ask him himself, what would he prefer to happen… He wants to stay, then thrash something out within reason that suits both parties.. If he wants to go, whether for footballing reasons or homelife influence, then he has earned that at least…
The guy is 35now, and as much as we wish, we still can’t turn the clock back 10years… Let Virgil have his personal preference considered as a matter of courtesy rather than give him a ‘take it or leave it’ situation…

Yes, confused myself on that - but doesnt really change anything.

After the referee’s treatment today, maybe it’s time to stack a few more English players…

I think we would have received better treatment from refs all over those years had our main CF been Harry Kane, just saying.

Hendo, Gerrard, Sterling, Lallana, Millie, Ox didn’t get any preferential treatment when they played for us against the Cheats.

There may be some small point to what you are saying but the overwhelming big point is…

It happened because it’s Cheaty.

I read somewhere since Abu Dhabi bought City (and the refs) City have gotten 8/9 direct big decisions against us and we only got one (the Trent handball before Fab scored).

That’s a helluva skewed balance there.

In this case everything definitely does not even out at the end.

It wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference if the game had been against Arse their foreign players still get the benefit of the doubt. when Van de Ven (Tottenham) broke Isak leg with that horrible tackle he only got a yellow for it.
Trent is an England player and when he got a ridiculous 1st yellow in a previous match he quickly got a second following a slight nudge of the ball into touch for time wasting when we were already down on the scoreboard.

And overwhelmingly get punished because it is Liverpool.

Manchester City yes or no? Equalize. Aleksandar Pavlovic have, on my oponion, no ambition to become world class.

Is he actually any good ?

He definitely is good but is he worth £100M I don’t know.

Liverpool want to sign a right-back and France international Pierre Kalulu, 26, of Juventus and Roma’s Brazilian Wesley Franca, 23, are among their targets. (Tuttomercatoweb - in Italian)

Any thoughts, comments, opinions on Pierre and Wesley?

I thought Franca was more a wing back

No idea, but get the younger one.

Save for Olise, there is nobody what is worth us paying £100M+ for.

We have overpaid for Wirtz, Isak, and Barcola.

Enough!

When Olise costs about €250m (he won’t, because we’re not getting him), we will again talk about overpaying.

I am totally against these overblown prices

No matter how good a player is, it’s unjustifiable

It puts immediate pressure on the player to justify the price, on top of the pressure of playing at a big club.

I used Olise as an outlier example. Even if he was available, I wouldn’t want us to pay that sort of exorbitant price for one player. Building a massive single point of failure.

I’m alright with it by default, it depends from case to case.

Some of our best ever signings were also ones that at the time of buying them could’ve been labelled as overpaying. There is no universal measure how much someone is worth, nobody will agree over that.

Liverpool buying and using an Andy Robertson the way it all happened in 2017 and then 10 years later or so is not the same circumstance, it generally becomes harder. But yeah, to a certain extent, you’d like the club to still be able to surprise with some players the general public doesn’t know much about.

I’ve seen us with a lack of financial ‘might’ and with in recent times and I choose the latter every day of the week, without a second of thought.

Then of course, it vastly depends what you do with it, decisions off the pitch and use of it all on the pitch.

What we did in the last few transfer windows left us with a number of question marks, I started having serious ones by the end of the 2025 summer transfer window. At times in the past, we splashed certain transfer records on players I almost knew from the first second that it’s not the right move.

We need clarity this season and see what can be built out of this group in order to return to challenging and winning, knowing then also how to attack future transfer windows.
