I get that but we paid a ton of money for Wirtz and he can’t really play in a 3. He hasn’t lit the world on fire since he’s been here, but he is starting to come good. We need to commit to a system either way…midfield 3 (in the club’s recent DNA) or a midfield 2 with a 10. The link to Mora as cover for Wirtz suggests the latter.
That might be true but i prefer a 3 with Dom.
What is something?
Yeah, if our players had it we would win everything, but something is missing ![]()

Back to rumours. On Scot and Camara. You have to assume we are going to do some juggling and trading.
We sold Jones. But to get those 2 we would need to sacrifice one of Macallister, Grav?
If we can sell jay spearing from the u21s as a homegrown player then we might be able to afford them both. Not saying i want them both mind you.
I think we’ll tie down Macallister to a new deal, personally. We should be able to afford two new midfielders and a replacement for Joe Gomez (i assume will leave) Plus Araujo. Depending on Leoni and how he recovers.
I don’t think we’ll have to sell.

Fixed it… SCOTT!
So close…
FFS Darwin!
Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the top European clubs keen on Stuttgart’s 20-year-old German centre-back Finn Jeltsch. (Sport - in Spanish)
Im not sure we’ll get Scott.
We really don’t seem to target any players from the manager’s past club. We haven’t done that with Klopp , Slot.
We hired Kerkez before we got Iraola in so that doesn’t really count either.
Not for lack of trying. We tried for Gundogan etc. but in general , we tended to graduate to other players because we might have figured that the clubs would ask for too much money
When it comes to more players being brought in, it’ll depend a lot on if we are doing it in January or in the summer.
If it is January, we are already not registering Endo and Chiesa for the champions league, so either someone else would need to be unregistered or we’d need to free up a space in the squad/registration. Easier for a homegrown player. If we are freeing someone up, with the rumors we are opening negotiations with Mac Allister for a new contract and him being the best performing of our midfielders in our current system, it probably won’t be him.
In the summer we will very likely have Endo and Kostas leave when their contracts run out. We might even have Virgil and Alisson leave at the end of their contracts then too. So lots of spaces opening up naturally and a lot of rework to be done then.
These days there’s no player more over priced than an English one coming into their prime years moving between two English clubs. And there’s a whole strategy on the continent to buy young English players to then develop and sell back to English clubs at a premium.
Anderson, Rodgers, Grealish, Rice, Maguire, Sancho, Eze, Mount, Madeuke, Solanke, Gittens, Delap, Trafford, Ramsey, All victims of the English tax.
I think it’s telling we’ve not got caught up in that. Our record English transfer (albeit Frimpong is homegrown) is still Andy Carroll 15 years ago and the only one to come close since was Ox who was on the cheap due to his contract.
If you can have a couple come through your academy like Trent, Bradley or Jones and then bring in the likes of Elliott, Carvalho, Nyoni and Rio on very cost effective deals when they’re a bit younger but not far off going into the first team squad then you’re not worrying about getting caught up in the English premium nonsense.
Add a couple more like Leoni who come in at an age they can be classed as homegrown in a couple years and there’s no need to be overspending on the likes of Scott or Wharton to hit a quota.
On Wharton, how is he going this year, not seen or head of him, not living up to expectations?
Palace are awful in general this year. Sold extensively, bought poorly, and ended up with a well regarded manager whose vision for football (very heavily possession based) doesnt seem compatible with the players he has and was validated in a league where its a LOT easier to possess the ball.
Minteh is back
Overhyped English plodder like hes always been.
Careful mate, agree with your post, not sure the irish will like you putting bradley into the english tax ![]()
