I think that is probably true but would also add that there is a wider issue around knowing which of our current midfielders if any will best fit what we are looking to do and which midfielder(s) we might want to buy (if any) will best compliment them.

I mean, I think it’s evident that what we do in the next couple windows will depend, in large part, on how we look under a new manager over the next few months.
But seeing as we tied both Gravenberch and Szoboszlai to new deals recently and Wirtz is a longterm commitment, I think you can make an educated guess as to who will be seeking to replace and what kind of profile we’ll be looking at.

I tend to get one big summer crush so as long as we get Noah Sadiki next summer (he was my secret crush this summer because I knew we weren’t getting a DM) I’m happy to let Sweeting buy whoever else he wants. Providing they aren’t a DM of course.

True. I suppose it’s possible that the club could pivot away from Szobo or Grav. I actually think you could make a credible argument to do so, as they’re both ball-carrying midfielders who prefer to crash the box instead of being more deep-lying and offering coverage. I’m not sure a Wirtz-Szobo-Grav midfield works. And with Barcola and Rio set for the LW, I can’t see us shifting Wirtz there.
But unless someone offers a world record fee and we have a world class replacement available, I doubt we’d consider moving on from either of them. So, that really leaves Macca as the most likely to be moved on and needing to be replaced.

Are Camara and Fernandes the same type of player?
I’m not sure, I haven’t seen them play much. I’ve got an impression of sorts of what type of player Camara is, but not Fernandes.
I miss fbref, that was a great site for stuff like this, comparing players.
