Libertarian streaks are common among Americans, but most people acknowledge it is just a bias towards being left alone rather than a defining political philosophy. Libertarianism, as in a political philosophy that one claims to follow, is simply not serious and so you should be deeply skeptical of anyone who identifies as such. Membership of the of the Libertarian party is a completely different level of insanity and the people involved in it are a completely different breed.
